Maybe I should have them install a new .45 Colt cylinder but I am not sure I see the point.

I have a 7.5 inch .454 with me now. I’ve shot it quite a bit but only .45 Colt ammo thus far.
I’m going to ask Bob to look at it while we are in Raton.

I think the firing pin retraction spring is a little weak.

Herb was an incredible trick shot. I always thought his choice for this use was very interesting.

Did he use full power ammunition? How loud must that have been to the cast and crew?

Re: SD vs Accuracy

I never bothered to check SD while trying to find a load for my small ring Mauser in 257AI. No matter what bullet, powder, primer combo I tried in the past 30 odd years nothing would shoot under an inch. However just about any load would come together at 200. Somewhere I was told about a theory cal...

Re: My FBI friends used to carry a 3 inch Smith & Wesson 13

I can see a valid point for a compact revolver which is capable of handling .357 when necessary. The accuracy in the first picture would work great for any situation. Just an opinion, but it seems that some folks substitute power for accuracy. Enough power with great accuracy is better in most case...

Over the past couple of days I have been shooting a variety of guns with two loads. 6 gr Red Dot 250 gr RNFP for about 800 fps or a little better. This is a remarkably consistent load with very low SDs 8 gr 231 250 gr RNFP for a bit over 900 fps. This one is much more volatile. Sometimes I’ll have t...

My FBI friends used to carry a 3 inch Smith & Wesson 13

I thought it made good sense. Some of the Drug Enforcement guys carried a 3 inch Model 65. Many years ago I picked up a 65 with the intent to carry it. I got it out today as I was doing some snubby practice. I’m really not sure why I left it sitting in the safe. 158 gr cast bullet handload at 10 yar...

I’ve had loads that varied quite a bit that shot very well. Then again, I’ve had loads that should shoot well that didn’t. There may be more at work than we think.
