Re: Modifying the 92 for Longer OAL help.

I’m curious if this is possible. This is a fairly standard modification for the 94 Marlin but I don’t think I have heard of anyone doing this with a 92 Winchester pattern rifle.

I shot a very nice buck last year on opening day. But I don’t shoot a nice one every year. This year I have some young deer with antlers that indicate that they will be pretty special if left to grow. They will have their chance. But I see no problem with taking out the deer that will never really g...

Shooting spike bucks

When you see a whitetail deer with a large spike on one or both sides it is generally considered an inferior deer and we try to take them out of the gene pool. I have two of them this year but I wasn’t quite sure about the current regulations. Fortunately Texas Parks and Wildlife gives us great diag...

Re: reduced loads for hunting deer

A whitetail isn’t that hard to kill. Last year I took my buck with a .45 Colt load that is safe in a Single Action Army.

You just have to punch a hole through them in the right place. If it’s accurate, you can certainly do the job.

While I don’t know what kind of velocity that load might generate, I know several guys who load their .30-06 down to .30-30 levels so that their kids can shoot deer without the heavier recoil.

Makes good sense to me.

But they are this easy to fix if you break one. I have changed. Out several to change colors.

And even if the fiber optic breaks you still have the irons until you get it fixed.

Hold/position sensitivity?

I find that some air rifles, particularly spring air rifles, are very sensitive as to how you hold them. If you are very consistent, your gun will shoot noticeably better. I’ve never thought about this with firearms but I’m wondering about it. I know that the more consistent you can be with a SAA th...
