Well there is always the old standby of "10 grains Unique" and any light bullet for a nice plinker. That would make a nice place to start, (and probably stop with the cast bullet, which will likely begin to "spray" a bit at above 1500 fps if it is a plain-base bullet) The jackete...

Rube, go ahead and get the barrel length that feels right for the kind of shooting you do: the velocity difference from 20 to 26 inch won't amount to spit. (No, I really don't have a batch of 38-55s in a variety of barrel lengths, but that's my semi-educated guess from playing around with 30/30's an...

I'm not buying any "pressure wave" theory. I think it is much more likely caused when a bullet is lodged in the barrel and an second round is fired behind without realizing the first bullet is lodged. I think about 2 times in my life I have had a primer go off without igniting the powder. ...

Hornady makes a .312 bullet in 150 and 175 (I think) grains, but they are made for 303 British type velocities and might not expand reliably with your lower velocities. The 150 also has a long ogive and might be a challenge in seating to correct OAL (I don't have any 7.62X39 loading experience so ca...

Re: Rossi Puma question
I'll second what J Miller says. If it's reloaded ammo, the primer not seated quite all the way can give you that symptom. New cases, especially, sometimes take quite a lot of primer-seating pressure to get 'em fully seated. Reloads that don't quite chamber 100% fully can also do that. And if you're ...

I've shot a bunch of .312 Hornady 150 grain bullets through an old 7.7 Arisaka converted to .308 Win. My regular 308 dies never gave me any problems. I kinda' like to use the Lyman "M" expanding die to open up the neck just a bit for easier seating, but it's not a vital step. So I don't th...

I've just started "playing" with this powder. It is an ideal burning rate for our 30wcf and 32 Special cases, giving a case full of powder with the 170 grain bullet when you get your upper-end pressure levels. My one success to date was with a 30 Remington (in the Rem 141 pump rifle) and I...
