SR-4756 is great for standard revolver loads. Look at the can again though, you will find it is 8 oz, not a pound. 4756 is quite bulky. Leaves very little residue too.
4756, 4759 and PB are all on the list to be discontinued.

Winchester (Olin) was still head-stamping brass WRA into the 1960s and possibly early 1970s. I have .44-40, 34-70, .38 sPL, .32 S&WL and others which were purchased new by me during that period. Both WW and WRA were available at the same time.

The Gould bullet was designed before smokeless powder and was, obviously, intended for Black Powder only. With Black the charge is compressed and supports the bullet, there is no crimp groove. Seat to the top band and crimp as Hobie said,

If the bullet you are asking about is fairly recent, since 1989 or so, there is an excellent chance that those bullets are Hornady. Remington used the 250 Hornady RN in factory .35 Whelen ammunition for at least several years after introduction of the cartridge as a production round instead of a wil...

Tycer, You are worrying about way to much. With all the original 1873 Winchester cartridges there has always been an exceptional amount of variation. Chances are the first mould is 42798 , the standard 200-215 gr RNFP for the .44-40. The 35891 is pretty well self explanatory. It is a 148 gr. wadcutter for .38 Spl. or .357 Magnum. The three digit numbers stamped under the mould number are simply a matching number for the set of clocks, effectively...

Two things likely. Either you are not holding the lever closed completely, which is the reason for the two-piece firing pin, so the gun will not fire unless completely locked. The other is you have a broken firing pin caused, generally, by dry-firing the gun without a snap cap.

The Lee case trimmer is intended to be used in fired cases, not sized. Read the instructions. All Carbide dies, all sizer dies for that matter, slightly over-size the cases with the expectation they will then be expanded. This is why they leave a ring if you try to size to the base. Hobie's comments notwithstanding, that is very common when sizing new brass without lubricating the inside of the necks slightly. It doesn't take much. I use a bore mop with a few drops of case sizing lube. Lube it once and it will literally do hundreds of cases before having to re-lube it. New bras...

Not only can the average person not do this modification, you are going to have a hard time finding a gunsmith that has any idea how to do it.
