Re: .44-40 BP reloading

I often use a drop tube when loading my larger black powder rifle cartridges like 45-70 and 45-90 but don't regularly use it with my 44-40 stuff. Oh I have and I think it makes for less fouling but most of my 44-40 is for SASS and it's just too much trouble especially when you consider that it just ...

Re: .44-40 BP reloading

Most of the time I just let the bullet give me about .1 inch compression. This is with my 20:1 cast bullets sized .429. It's the biggest bullet that will chamber in my Colts and even then I must use Starline or Winchester brass. If I were just loading for my 73s I would use bigger bullets. Now I hav...

I had a BSA with intermittent lights once. I think those were Lucas or maybe Smith. Best limey bike I had was a Norton Combat Commando. I still have fond memories of that sucker after I took the Amals off it and substituted a single Mikuni.

Re: Car Stuff from Long Ago and Far Away in Another Time

I remember that the Ford 60s ran a separate class from the Offies. I've driven a midget with a Ford 60 in it but never got to "put on" an Offie. Yeah, getting in a midget was like putting on a tight boot. And you go to the far end of the straight, it comes to you. There was a Farmall overhead valve ...

Those were useful as defrosters as long as you weren't pulling a hill where you needed all your vacuum just to make it up. Wipers were the same. You had to let off the gas to get a swipe across the windshield. Very interesting.

Congratulations sir, beautiful rifle. I bought the Miroku/Winchester SRC in 44-40, put a tang sight on it and really like it but, like my original from 1896, the groove diameter is .431 so I'm out of luck for jacketed bullets and the loads for it won't chamber in my Colts.

My buddies brother went to the Navy and left his old flathead ford race car sitting in the weeds behind the house so me and buddy drug it out and got it running. This was about 1955. We drug it to the track and bought a can of Methanol to pour in it and signed in as the brother in the Navy. We took ...

Jim T.; I have a '41 Mercury coupe on the rotisserie right now. Actually it's been there for going on to 10 years. Wish I still had a flathead to go in it but it will get a 5.0 Lincoln drivetrain. That is if I live long enough to finish it.

I would have to look up the weight but I remember the best powder in my 99, 250 was IMR 4064. I'm sure I pushed it too far trying to get 3000 fps. Next time I'm in the loading room I'll look up the load. Oh, they were 87 grain Sierras. I still remember that much.
