Let's see, I started loading in about 1960 on a Herters single stage. Great press if you can find a used one. During the 80s I was shooting IPSC and bought a Dillon 450. Later on it got upgraded to a 550 (they made a kit) and now it's a 550B. I load a lot of 30-06 on it and the real high volume is 2...

I just looked to see and Treebone Carving (treebinecarving.has the stock blanks, well semi-inletted. They are pretty easy to fit and finish. See their instructions. Boyd's may have them too, and I think Winchester Bob may have the saddle rings.

Re Oldironsights, Another feature you don't want is an extended slide release. Too easy to push up and lock the gun open. +1 on the Acra-glass. I've used it for years and it will be stronger than the wood itself, if you get it clean. Actually the inside of that Mannlicher stock should not be oil soaked. What Griff said. I've just always loaded the same charge of 231 and a 200 grain H&G. Couldn't tell any difference but I did get rid of them because I load on a Dillon progressive machine and it was too much of a hassle keeping them separate and changing out the priming system.

Beautiful buck and rifle 86er. The 300 Savage should be almost equal to the .308 so I too think maybe the bullet is too stoutly jacketed for it's velocity. Try some 150s, they should give you more velocity, flatter trajectory and expand better for you.

What Sixgun said. Trim your brass to all the same length and seat and crimp separately. The greatest thing that Lee sells is their factory crimp die. I regard it as essential for the "dashes", 32-20, 38-40, 44-40. I load them all on the Dillon 550 and seldom have a problem.
