Re: Punt Gun--video

Punt guns were used by market hunters to sneak up on a big flock of swimming ducks & kill them on the water. I once read about a double-barreled punt gun with 2 locks; one percussion & the other flintlock, the latter being slightly elevated. Both barrels were fired at once. The percussion ba...

Re: Which Binoculars?

I'm just guessing, but from what you say you probably don't want to spend a fortune on binoculars. What you want is a quality pair of binocs, moderately priced, light enough to carry in the field and with really good optics. I bought these 3 years ago for shooting cowboy silhouettes, where spotting ...

If the rifle doesn't already have one, a front sight hood might help. Also, at my advanced age I find open sights are a real challenge, so all my lever actions have Marbles tang sights. These are the bee's knees of iron sights, IMO.

There have been several changes to the Model 70 over the years. Some post 64's are controlled round feed as well. The easiest way to tell is by the serial number. Funny that they show a very high grip on the pistol but never mention hammer bite. Until I got my first 1911 with a "spoon" grip safety i could never work up a lot of enthusiasm for shooting the .45 for that reason. At the end of a session of any length the finger-thumb web of my hand got ...

I prefer the Springfield XD in whatever size suits you to any Glock. Not to ruffle any feathers, but IMO carrying a Glock with a chambered...

If I remember correctly, the .38 Spl. was originally a BP cartridge. That's why the case is so much bigger than necessary for a smokeless load. With the .357 Mag. being only 1/8" longer I'd expect it to really perform well with a case full of BP.
