Re: Kindle
Interesting you bring this up just now. Mine locked up on my night before last. It would go to the menu page but would not display text from any book. I "reset" it by holding the power switch for 15 sec or so. After that, it re-booted and everything returned to normal. I've been using mine...

Re: OT - Bolos and Peashooters
I clicked on your link and confirmed that was Hickam Field in Hawaii. My grandfather was stationed there and at Schofield Barracks in the mid '30s. I imagine a number of those aircraft pictured were destroyed when the Japs attacked on Dec 7. There's a website I ran across a couple years ago that lis...

Re: Kindle
Since we're on the topic of e-books - I just purchased The Remains of Company D for my Kindle. It is the author's story of tracking down his grandfather's WW1 service in the 28th Infantry. I just started reading it last night. Wow - it is very well written. http://www.amazon.com/Remains-Company-Stor...

Re: Kindle
I received a Kindle for Christmas too. There are a lot of good gun and history books available! Search the free online e-book libraries for interesting out-of-print books as well. I've downloaded about a dozen or so.

Re: Old Gun Photos - Poor Gun Safety.....
Interesting safety concepts
There were a number of interesting old guns in that collection though. Saw quite a few Krags, '03s and '17s.

Re: OT Concealed Carry incident
If you are ever involved in a self defense shooting, you say "I was in fear for my life and I had to stop him. Now can I have a lawyer". After that, shut up.

Re: New member - Howdy
Thank you. I do enjoy shooting them. Even though the Krag is sporterized, it has to be my favorite. The work was done by my grandfather in the 1940s.

Re: OT - Answering Krag Question
I shoot the Lee C312-185 cast from WW and sized .312 over 19 gr of SR-4759. It gives me about 1700 fps out of my 24" barrel. I have a Redfield "no drill" peep sight on it and it is very accurate out to 200 yds. For best results with cast in the Krag, be sure you slug your bore. Krag b...

Re: 45-70 assignment
A .45-70 works best when the bullet goes through-and-through. Big holes on both sides to bleed out of and a big hole through major organs.

Re: MOVIES - The Professionals
"Appaloosa" was very good. I love the part where Ed Harris hits the bad guy across the face with his Colt and say something to effect that "Sam Colt sure does make a heavy firearm". "The Wind and the Lion" is the quintessential Krag movie  Lots of Winchester '9...

Re: MOVIES - The Professionals
We rented that movie off of Netflix a couple months ago. There are some neat firearms in the film that you don't often see in the movies - 1903s (both as '03s and as the Mexican "Mausers"), the 1917 Browning, an 1897 Winchester pump action, etc. Not many Westerns set in the early 20th Cent...

I've lurked here forever and finally decided to join the forum. I've enjoyed the discussions here for a number of years and I've learned a lot about history and Leverguns. I especially enjoy Rangerider's historic ranger photos. My GG-grandfather on my Mom's side was a Ranger and his father was the c...
