Re: Carry gun for an 89 year old man……good one
I’ve been holding on to a 2” 64 for my eventual “old man gun”. I bought it years ago for my daughter but she didn’t like it and bought herself a S&W Shield 9mm.

Mine was holding the ten ring from the bench at 25 yards with Minimags. Velocitors also seem promising but I’ve not shot enough to tell for sure. I also need to work with the magnum cylinder some more.

I have a Dillon 550 currently set up for 45 ACP and a Redding Turret for rifle rounds. For revolver ammo, I use my grandpa’s CH Tool and Die Pistol Champ H press. It has four die stations and a primer feed. It’s not as fast as the Dillon but I like using it. Grandma gave it to me after grandpa passed.

I bought a 16 gauge in 1984 or so. Fall semester, I’d break it down into a duffel bag with my clothes and take it to the dorm. One night, we would drive to a friends parents place about a half hour away. They had about a hundred acres we could hunt and I’d leave the gun there and take it home when t...

I keep a set of 10x42 Leupolds in the truck. I have a better pair of 10x42 Leupolds that I take when I know I’m going to use them. I recently bought a pair of Vortex 8x36 I’ve been taking squirrel hunting. They’re lighter and more compact but pretty good optically.

The best ankle holster used was the Renegade which is now being made by The Wilderness. I currently carry Cor-Bon DPX in my 642 but a lot of switched on people seem to prefer the standard wad cutters for the low recoil and adequate penetration

Cor-Bon DPX or 158 grain lead hollow points. However the 148 grain wadcutters are starting to appeal to me. Supposedly they have adequate penetration with less recoil

I had one for years. I had to send it back early one but after that it was pretty good. It was a bit on the heavy side and a bit bulkier than a 1911. After about 17 years the slide stop hole wore out and it wasn't repairable so S&W replaced it with a new one.
