Awesome story, that dog had the odds stacked againt it, I have waged war on coyotes around my place latley called in a big dog coyote thursday & the 99 Savage in 243 does a fine job, i quit using the 223 as many of the shots are long range and for me 3 - 4 hundred yards on coyotes is way to far ...

I too have had my fair share of problem S&W & Colt SAA & will never buy another have a S&W 629 with 427 cyl. throats & a 425 bore, leads like crazy until i ran 8 cast bullets thru it laced with valve grinding compound, sink or swim sucker i thought, guess what it worked pretty go...

So was the bullet a 117 gr.? thats what i have used Hornady or Remington
even the 75 gr. Speer, none of them ever stayed in deer or antelope, 25-35 is a great cartridge
and fun to load for

I have an older one that was made in the early 60s, ive had it for 30 years & it still runs like a clock
really like the ease of loading & kicking out the emptys, it shoots very well but does not look to purdy
mine has a dove tail rear sight

My Savage 99 A in 308 gets the job done in fine style, not the most used lever gun i own, that honor
goes to my tack driver 99 E in 243, the 308 wins because of its power to down any large game in Wyoming
