She still has the marlin, it was hanging by the sling on a nail in the wall by the door in the last show. I think her shoulder is too messed up to shoot a rifle and this was the package they came up with for her at the gunstore.

I have both 5D's and Foolproof's. The hard part with the 5D is getting the zero set with no click adjustments. After it is zeroed, works just as well.

Don't know about the price, would need to be fancy for 3200, but the Japchesters are well made. I own 6 and never a problem with them. I sold a Japcester 1895 SRC in 30-40 a couple months ago on gunbroker. It was unfired in the box with all documents. It sold for $1600.00.
I also sold an 1886 deluxe takedown in 45-70, again unfired in the box with all documents. That one sold for $2250.00.

I have a Marlin 1 in 38 Microgroove, manufactured 1984. Shoots 300 grain XTP's just fine. I have not shot anything heavier. If I need more than 300 grains.... that's what a 45/70 is for! :D

How far are you going to be shooting? A 45/70 becomes a challenge for holdover for me at anything past 200 yards. The .348 I could shoot 250 or maybe even 300 yards. If its for inside 150 yards, flip a coin. A really nice problem to have! :mrgreen:

did you replace the front blade too? I have one and you are correct, the ladder site has a notch too small for a good sight picture. Perhaps mechanically, they are finally making a few non-lemonington's. For me, the pictured gun is laminate not walnut..... not to my liking and the dimensions of the stock resemble a fence post. Too bulky! :shock: I'd say they got a loooooooooog way to go before it compares to a JM.

I have one of the Winchester Timber carbines in .444 with the 16.5 ported barrel. It was bought new by me and has never been fired. I keep finding my self picking up my marlin .50 Alaskan when I want a big bore lever gun. :roll:
