That'll do just fine.
Do you plan to leave the wood pores open or are you going to fill the pores?
Also do yourself a favor and get snap caps, the older Browning hammer springs had a tendency to break if left cocked.

Re: am I exaggerating 44 mag recoil

Steel or hard plastic butt hurts. No two ways about it.
I'm working on a model 70 in 308 now. It has a hard plastic butt and I cut a chunk of pool noodle to put between me and that plastic. I still get a bruise after shooting groups.

Try a NEW bore brush. Push it through from the breech end then pull backwards. Before trying this, do your best to get some penetrating oil around the case body, let it soak awhile (I suspect a rough chamber from corrosion due to brass / steel being in close contact for many years.) If that doest wo...

Jason do yourself a favor and invest in a 5/16 brass rod, usually 36" and make it part of your range gear. I had a stuck case once( extractor ripped the rim off) and without that rod my day would have been over!

Are you talking about metal engraving or on the wood?
If you are taking about the wood just take off the factory wood and replace it with Boyds wood. Simple & easy.
If you are talking about actual engraving there is no cheap easy way to remove enough steel to get to the bottom of it .
