Re: Harley Davidson Moving?

[] Yes, they are Showa forks, produced in Ohio...check it out. now we're splittin hairs, but thats a little like saying that a Nissan Titan is a domestic truck because its made in Smyrna, TN. when i was at work yesterday i pulled the front fork parts off the shelf for an '08 Dyna wreck job in the s...

Re: Harley Davidson Moving?

Is "A Harley" with Japanese suspension, other outsourced ovreseas parts ridden by a guy wearing Chinese-made leathers still "A Harley"? Stretch, I'll have to beg to differ with you as, I can guarantee you with your life that there is not a Japanese suspension on any currently ma...

Re: Marlin 1895 Cowboy KABOOM!

My dad had a 1895 Cowboy blow on him a couple years ago using FACTORY remington ammo. To be honest, the threads are very thin. I was surprised to see that. He was lucky and was not hurt, but Hobie is right. When they blow, they all look the same. In the end, Marlin offered a replacement rifle. He d...

Re: Pedersoli Model 71 in 45-70

I don't know much about the 348 Win although I'm fairly certain from past comments I've read on this board that people seem to have a difficult time getting an accurate load for it. that's interesting as i can't find a load that my Browning 71's won't shoot well. they are hands down the most accura...

Re: Pedersoli Model 71 in 45-70

Hmmm, interesting. It "appears" to be a long tang version, too. I have a feeling that it will be priced in the $2K range, so it's not something that I might consider. Original 71s are easily available for that. :| Hi Mike, Hope you are well. I do not think it will approach 2K. No disrespe...

Re: 50-110 bullet questions

standard American and British .50 cal bore is .500" and groove is .510" although the 505 Gibbs dosen't follow this. Green Mnt. barrel has/had some 50-110 lever gun barrels with a tight .508 groove. the .512" diameter is pretty standard for shooting cast in .50 cal barrels. my converte...

Re: Why do you reload?

it started as a money saver. then it became another part of the hobby. then it progressed into shooting obsolete calibers that you couldn't buy ammo for if you wanted to. once i started bullet casting i realized a freedom from virtually any constraints. i even worked part time in the evenings for a ...

i used to be a member here years ago under a different name. i recently joined again a few days ago so i don't know what the problems might be but i'm sure they're no different than any other internet forum. the reason i left for years was the amount of off topic stuff you had to wade through to fin...

Re: "Obsolete Calibers"

40-65 Winchester, 577-450 Martini Henry, 577 Snider, 11.15 x 57 Werndl, 56-50 Snider - the only calibers I shoot that aren't obsolete are 45-70 and 38-40! When you shoot the old calibers the actual shooting part is just the tip of the iceberg - doing the research, scrounging up the brass and bullet...

Re: 50-110 data

50 Alaskan data from Hodgdon is safe for any modern Browning/Winchester 45-70 that has been converted to 50-110. since the 50-110 case is 2.4" and the Alaskan 2.1" pressure will be slightly less. i have used H4198 and IMR 3031 in my loads for my converted Browning. my favorite powder is 30...
