the farriers i dealt with all had a portable stand that had a base (usually a small car rim) with a shaft that came up to about knee height that they used to prop the horses hooves on. how about a smith enterprise ladder sight for rear dovetail on barrel. Once you get windage right then you have all the elevation adjustment you need, and no damage to your rifle.....just a thought.

I have a pr of 18" Boulets That I bought in 1995 at Mule-Camp (SE Regional) and they are a hartd boot to beat for the money. I'd also recommend durango boots. they have a tall 1880s look boot available with walking heel, and I bought my son a pr of 14s for about $125.00.

with those grips you got a REAL GOOD deal by local standards. I've seen grips like that go for
$200-250 routinely on SASS classifieds. you can make it shoot, just gotta find the right combination. 5 grs titegroup with 200 rnfp works awfully good in most 44-40s...good luck

Thanks Kirk, you should've seen the looks I got when I rolled up to the firing line at a local cowboy match with that 73, alternating between the '87 and a grade 3 1889 Remington double barrel. Can't shoot a lick but really racked up the style points. :lol:

We busted and shot thru several old dics a couple of weeks ago with cast bullets in 45 Colt, 250 gr at about 800fps....if you can find some disc from back in the 50's or 60s they will hold up awhile with cast bullets, but you'll be punching holes with modern jacketed ammo of any type with disc.........
