Just looked up the history of the USS Vestal, a very busy and impressive service record throughout WWII.
Both of my ships spent some time alongside repair ships (Taiwan, Japan and Phillipines). These repair ships were more commonly called Destroyer Tenders when I was in.

Interesting thread. I took a tour (Jan, 1974) of the USS Arizona Memorial while in Pearl Harbor, on my second tour to SE Asia on board Navy destroyers. What was interesting to me at the time was that about 3/4ths of the people on this tour were Japanese tourists. This didn't bother me as it did othe...

I have a Savage Model 220 single shot, which I feel is a great single shot platform, very well made too. Re: shooting 45-70 after shoulder surgery
In 2012 I scheduled and had rotator cuf surgery on my strong side (right shoulder) in July, so I would be healed enough to fire a rifle for deer hunting in later November. At the range, I strapped on my recoil shield and started with my 30-30, and it was fine. Then I carefully shot my 270 and it was...

Great pics of your 45/70 CB.
I have a straight stocked Marlin 1895 45/70 and also a 30-30 CB that's great to shoot. My strong side shoulder is more recoil sensitive after rotator cuf surgery a few years ago, so I don't shoot the 45/70 much anymore.
