Well, lets see.....a little pvc pipe, some hairspray, a simple igniter switch and a tater or two (a.k.a. a spud gun) and a person would have something that would get their attention, especially a group of twenty or so. Being a single shot, one would desire to have several on hand.

An excellent day in the field ! While walking in the big timber up north several days ago, there is a huge mast crop this year. Should eqyste to well fed gray and fox squirrels as well as whitetails too.

These are still fairly common around here. Two buddies hunt the big timber in Northern WI with a Savage 340. My brother has one as well. Decent guns, quite accurate to boot. They average around $350 +/- around here.

A Winchester Model 1890 ( "90" ), hammer, octagon barrel, pump 22 LR.
Still have it. It was my grandfather's, then Dad, now me. I can only guess Grandad bought it new. An absolutely fine piece of true craftsmanship.

I read the link regarding the Marlin Jam (thanks for that Pete44). One would certainly think Marlin would correct these flaws, but then what would the tinkerers and gunsmiths do :wink:

My Marlin 30-30, which has a 24" octagon barrel, has an aperture (peep) rear sight, and a well visible front post. Noticed my range is shrinking with age, but still a fun gun to shoot.

Don't recall if I've ever seen a bolt action 410. Marlin made bolt action 12 ga shotguns some time ago, but it has been awhile now.

I was up fishing by Grand Rapids several weeks ago, took a rainy afternoon off and drove over to Walker to check out Reed's (via hwy 200 through Remer).
A bit spendy, but did get to handle a few lever guns there that I hadn't seen for some time.

I'd post a pic of my woodpile if I knew how, but have about two winters of seasoned oak ready for the woodstove in my living room.
I'm negotiating with an area logger for a semi load of oak logs for future winters.

Similar to the trade guns common 2+ centuries ago. Load them with a round ball, or shot (light or heavy).
A common caliber/gauge was 62 cal, which actually equates to a 20 ga. Quite versatile on the frontier.

I wonder what it looks like now. Back then it was the largest U.S. Naval Support Base in the Pacific. The last time I was there was late June, 1974, 45 years ago.

I primarily shoot (and reload) 150 grain bullets. 170 gr bullets are fine as well.
As has been said, go with whatever your rifle prefers.

All 30-30 (30wcf) bullets are designed to expand at 30-30 velocities.
