As I've aged (I'm 66 now) I have managed to injure both rotator cufs, resulting in surgical repair on both. I am not necessarly sensitive to recoil, but prefer less nowadays anyway. I have recently switched to a short action caliber (6.5) for whitetail deer hunting. The only magnum rifle that I may ...

Well, lets see.....a little pvc pipe, some hairspray, a simple igniter switch and a tater or two (a.k.a. a spud gun) and a person would have something that would get their attention, especially a group of twenty or so. Being a single shot, one would desire to have several on hand.

The left is so enamored with Socialism, that they are falling all over themselves to embrace it as the wonder of the ages, the answer to the world's problems, and the salvation of humanity. I'm lucky. I still get to hang out in the old shop I frequented as a kid. Almost every night after supper, I'd run out and pester the old gent with questions. Just got back from camping on the shore of Chequamegon Bay, Lake Superior. Dropped the truck camper so we could tour a bit and enjoy the brilliant fall colors (hit the peak in that area). A Winchester Model 1890 ( "90" ), hammer, octagon barrel, pump 22 LR.
Still have it. It was my grandfather's, then Dad, now me. I can only guess Grandad bought it new. An absolutely fine piece of true craftsmanship.

I have several 357 Mag revolvers and am considering a 357 Mag levergun to shoot along with the revolvers. Been looking at the Henry offerings, always on the lookout for a "JM" Marlin 357, which are not very common around these parts. In a recent post here, one forum member mentioned he had...

My Marlin 30-30, which has a 24" octagon barrel, has an aperture (peep) rear sight, and a well visible front post. Noticed my range is shrinking with age, but still a fun gun to shoot.

I'd post a pic of my woodpile if I knew how, but have about two winters of seasoned oak ready for the woodstove in my living room.
I'm negotiating with an area logger for a semi load of oak logs for future winters.

Similar to the trade guns common 2+ centuries ago. Load them with a round ball, or shot (light or heavy).
A common caliber/gauge was 62 cal, which actually equates to a 20 ga. Quite versatile on the frontier.

I primarily shoot (and reload) 150 grain bullets. 170 gr bullets are fine as well.
As has been said, go with whatever your rifle prefers.
All 30-30 (30wcf) bullets are designed to expand at 30-30 velocities.
