Yep , it's kind of cold on the North Coast for range time today Jason. In the low 30's here on the far East side. :D . When loaded with reasonable loads these 1895's are handy to carry all day and won't beat You to death in the process. Just put a Williams Foolproof on it and Be Done! . For...

I have an old vintage 1900 +/- single shot 22 that I'd like to have a gunsmith clean up, but it has no ID on it, including no serial numbers, etc. So far, no gunsmith will take it because they can't ID it to log it in

Re: Old Farmer Rifles
Having worked in agriculture my entire career, and actually still am involved through very part time jobs, have seen a number of guns commonly kept around the barns or sheds. Some were 22 rifles, some were shotguns. The worst ones (overall condition) were guns stupidly kept around the milk house.

Some guys have purchased a Henry single shot 357 mag a d had them reamed out for 357 maximum. They speak highly of them.
On the other hand, maybe the new Remington Ammunition Company (Parent Co : Federal, etc) will support new cartridges better than the previous Remington (??)

I have a Savage Model 220, single shot, (takedown) 410 that has been in my family for many years. I'll venture to say one of the best quality 410's ever......and hammerhead to boot. A wonderful "varmint gun" around the farm.

A local sporting goods has a bunch of primers all of a sudden.
A quick question ; Quality wise - is there much or any difference between CCI & Federal ? I'm just starting to load 357 and they have Federal small pistol/magnum for 74.99/1000 and CCI small pistol/ magnum for 84.99/1000.
Thanks..

I like the "twilight aperture" that Williams offers. I use them on both leverguns, In recent years I hunt with the aperture removed and the "slot" still acts like an aperture, it just allows more light and a larger sight picture.

Any of you folks have experience with either or both of these shotguns ?
