Re: Show latest one of my homemade rifles

Alphawolf45 - I was reading the other day that many of John Browning's firearm patents were never built by any gun company. Did you ever consider dusting one of these off and trying to build such a gun? :D Guys, again I appreciate all the compliments.. Means a lot to me that some of you think they ...

Re: Show latest one of my homemade rifles

I have finished a couple more builds..This is my version of the ubiquitous Marlin model 60 ...I had one I liked but it had the plain jane beech stock and aluminum receiver and triggerguard..I decided I could improve it..What I did here is made the receiver and the trigger guard in steel..Carved the ...

Re: Help Wanted Ad: Gunsmith

This post caused me to spend a couple days researching Juneau Alaska...Hey looks like a place I would really like to live...Except looking at the real estate prices..Even a little single and two bedroom homes on tiny city lot is for sale at $300,000.00.........I like it that the ocean is on one side...

Re: Show latest one of my homemade rifles

Man, I like that Butt Plate. Did you use the old one for the pattern? Is that a sand casting, or investment / lost wax process? Charlie Buttplates I use original steel buttplate as a pattern for sand casting...I like sand casting for lots of things..But the finish is rougher than lost wax...See thi...

Re: Show latest one of my homemade rifles

jumbeaux You didnt set yourself up a shop at home? This picture shows the bronze buttplate that I sandcast for the Marlin 1892. I heated it at 1200F for 20 minutes to give it the blackish oxide finish..Steel would have been better but I cant cast or forge steel buttplates.I'd have to buy steel buttp...

I am surprised at the response. I showed this same gun at the Marlin collectors forum and have gotten more comments in 24 hours here than in two months over there.. . Very nice work! That's so far above my skill level. I guess that's why I buy them instead of building them. :D . Re: Show latest one of my homemade rifles

Absolutely a beauty. Thanks for sharing such a remarkable project . What raw material did you start with for the receiver , bolt ? I use a low carbon steel for the frame and lever and any other part I want to colorcaseharden. 8620 would be the best choice since that is best for parts to be carburiz...

Show latest one of my homemade rifles

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u250/Alphawolf45_2007/Marlin%201892/10.jpg I am real happy how this one turned out..I copied old Marlin model 1892 .22 that inherited from Granddad. I made every piece except bought the tube magazine and the extractor and used a rifled barrel blank. http://i170.ph...

I'm in rural southwest Arkansas.. I have a live tree blowed over in my rural backyard. Every week for the last several years my wife cooks chicken on thursdays and pulls the skin off and then puts the chicken skins out on the blowed down tree trunk - ( out of reach of our 4 weener dogs) ..Then hawks...

Re: 40 Caliber Volcanic Rifle,

Charlie I did not know O-1 would make a good spring...For large flat gun springs I mill from a piece of annealed boat trailer leaf spring.. ..Your lever springs look very stout..Does it take two of them to keep the lever in the breech closed position? Or you made an extra one while you were at it? M...

Re: 40 Caliber Volcanic Rifle,

Beautiful work as always Charlie...But the pictures look better here than over at the Home Gunsmith forums.. Excellent pictures..I love the old guns ..Sure is slick how you have the magazine soldered to the barrel , reminds me of fancy built up wood trim molding in an expensive home.
