Re: 45 colt levergun
I have a 16" M92 Rossi that gets used with WW296 and Hornady 250 XTP's handloads. My son and I use it on feral hogs and it's deadly to 50-75 yds. We don't make a habit of shooting any further than that so bullet drop is not an issue. I would rather carry a short carbine than a pistol in the bru...

I will readily concede the Keith style is better but the old lead RNFP is not a bad bullet simply because no matter how you slice the tomato, it's still .452 diameter and will only get bigger with impact on something solid like bone. I shot a buck last year using my Marlin .45-70 with a 300 gr Hornady at about 1800 fps. The hit was broadside and high but went between the ribs on both sides without hitting bone. All good questions. Yes, I'm in Texas and the rifle got a little warm as I shot. Fed it singly. The flyers were not predictable. And groups were tight at 50 and opened up more at 100. Nice rifle - ought to shoot like a champ. I have a few thoughts - might be some help in diagnosis: Was the sequence of the fliers consistent; i.e. was it shot #4, 5 and 6 or something else that was in any way predictable? Was it hot - did the rifle lie out in the sun or were you in the shade while s...

Re: Winchester 94 stock fit and affect on accuracy ???
I agree with Pete. I think your flyers are more a function of inconsistent grip than bedding, sights, stock, etc. A lever carbine is not a tack driver but it's handy and plenty accurate for the intent - killing game at relatively close range, with the assumption there will be little time to react. Are the .38's lead and the .357's jacketed? That combo can cause accuracy issues. Another potential problem is the bullet jump into the rifling with the shorter case. A tenth of an inch is a long way to launch a bullet and any tilt can adversely affect accuracy. Most manuals recommend handloading fo...
