Re: What rear sight did McQueen use in Tom Horn?

The set up seen on the Tom Horn (movie) 1876 is a bit of a mystery. It seems to be unique to the rifle used in the movie. It consists of a block that slides into a dovetail on the tang. Good shot of it towards the end of this clip:

Simpler and shorter....... The Uberti is capable of the same pressures (14000psi) as the Colts SAA, of which it is a clone. The Ruger can take pressures of close to 25000psi. Most manuals have two sections for loading the 45 LC, one for Colts SAA, and a separate section for "Ruger and Contender...

So, this is being manufactured, not just finished by Turnbull? All made in house and in this country? That's not much more than a new Miroku Winchester, and they are not finished out like this one - and have the rebounding hammer and tang safety to boot.

Looks like a righteous set up to me. I also think the rifle is a Whitney Kennedy. As for how he is staging the rifle, that's pretty common. I have even seen some period photos where the subject is leaning on the butt plate with the muzzle on the deck! Neat old photo. Where do you find these things? :D

No, the 1876 was never produced as a takedown. The only takedown version of the toggle link models was the 1873 in 22 caliber. Shortening the barrel and having it turned to half round is only half the project. The make a short rifle just as Winchester did them, you also need to have the forearm shor...
