To me, and from what I've seen 94s go for, yes, it's too much. A nice but non-collectable 94 in it's most common caliber is a $400 gun. That it is new/untouched adds $50 to $75 in value. Maybe. In no way is it a rare piece. Despite what most people think, it's the buyer, not the seller who establis...
The only time I wear suspenders is for Cowboy Action Shooting. Don't really like them. If I had to wear them all of the time I think I would use this type. They seem to be the "uniform" for the working rancher types in these parts. :) http://www.suspenderstore.com/galluses-12gauge-b...
Winchester continued to make, and to sell, the 1873 alongside the 1892 up unto the 30s. Why? Because for many folks, the 1873 was "The Winchester." In any case, the Winchester 1873, and it's bigger sibling the 1876, are simply the most elegant expression of the victorian gunmaker's art. If...
I really enjoy my Uberti 66 in 22lr. Sweet little rifles, and very accurate to boot. :D You might want to order a spare extractor to have on hand. Very prone to breaking. Thanks for that tip, could you tell me who stocks them ? I can't find anyone this side of the pond. VTI Gunparts is the go to pl...
I have the iPhone 5 and wife has the Samsung Galaxy S3. Both are great phones. Actually, "phone" is a bit of underkill in describing these devices! As for the write on the screen feature, I have not come across it, but I will bet there is an app available for both Apple and Andorid platfor...
I think it's COSteve that has an AR with wood stocks and handguards SWEET! There's always this solution for those that require the proper finish. I'm thinking it's kind of heavy though. Turnbull AR in 308. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc129/Rimfire_McNutjob/ar_cc-web.jpg Well, I am not a big ...
I spent 25 years in the Alaskan bush. I always degreased my lever guns prior to winter use. When I returned home, the rifle was left on the unheated entry porch (lockable) where I would pick it up for the next day in the field. When finished for the season, I did as Mod71Alaska did, and placed the r...
I spend a lot of time outdoors and got my love of hats from my grandfather, who was never outdoors without a hat. Haven't had a really good beaver hat (blends, OK, but not 100%) since a short-brim Ryan I got from a co-worker's father's estate in the late 70s. I wore it for 20 years and then my girl...
As not to take this topic about loads over to cas and away from here i`d like to continue the discussion about different loads. I see over there some are using the 405 grain bullet with no problems. My Lee 405 grain flat nose mold drops bullets at 392 grains using wheel weights and a little lynotyp...
I'm late to the party, but wanted to congratulate you on your new 76. 45-60 is my favorite caliber in this rifle. I have both an original Winchester 1876 and the Uberti 76. My favorite go to powder for the Uberti 76 is 5744 - BP only in the original, of course. I see you have found the 76 Forum over...
Wouldn't want anyone to have a stroke! I didn't mean to suggest that I don't believe all new guns should be perfect out of the box. I do, but that is not the way it always happens with any companies wares! I am just saying that my personal experience with the New Winchesters is different than ...
I just finished another conversion on an 1886 Winchester that a customer wanted to shoot. Once again the gun misfired about every 10 -15 rounds straight out of the box, light primer hits from the rebounding hammer system. I wrote Winchester about this when the guns first came out and was told that ...
I have a pair of the Model P Jr. They were my wife's main match pistols for about 5 years. I also used them some. Very nice size, good balance and great for shooting duelist. I recommend them. I also had the Thunderer with the short barrel and birds head grip frame. Hated it. Nasty little devil! I n...
Someone posted a video of "Carabina Treinta Treinta" a while back... 8) There's a long selection on YouTube. I like this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrnVzILn4EQ No matter what the subject or song, the music of Mexico is always blessed with emotion and hope. Lyrics with translation...
Never cared too much about carrying a belt knife. I like them and collect them, but as far as a user - make mine a good pocket knife or Leatherman tool!
I looked at a new 1895 in the store the other day. The metal work looked nice, but the wood to metal fit was pretty bad. Fore end was ok, but the buttstock had kind of jagged gaps at the rear of the receiver and the wood was proud of the end of the lower tang by at least 3/16......! . That ...
Owning the Uberti 73 is a bit like owning a Harley. They are beautiful and functional right out of the box, but you quickly discover that there is an entire world devoted to suppling "go fast" and "bling" for them. Since the 73 is basically the "go to" rifle for Cowboy ...
I wouldn't touch the Miroku Japchester 1886/71s cause they're smothered in "Nanny knows best" safety gadgetry (rebounding hammer, tang safety). The Pedersoli is an honest to goodness "blueprint" unadulterated 1886/71. The guns are out and I've got dibs on a Pedersoli Premium gra...
Would like to help, but need a bunch more detail in order to even start trying to help answer your question. As a beginning, are you talking about a Winchester 1873 or an Uberti 73? :) 1.) The cartridge retainer tab on the bottom of the bolt would have nothing to do with "binding." It woul...
I hope Uberti gets the bugs out of this action. It's calling my name, but I resist. If they bring out the lightweight variant of the action, resistance will simply not be possible. What do you mean by "lightweight variant"? If you mean the carbine, that's been out for some time. Perry, it...
I have a Parker Hale 1853 Enfield rifled musket. Mine is a pretty old example and was built in England, by Parker Hale, using the original patterns. As far as I know, the current production is made in Italy.
The New Winchester 92 is currently being produced. Saw several configurations at the Shot Show, including a neat little take down version. Excellent quality. Easily the Cadillac of 92s. :D I have one of the short rifles, and really enjoy it. I have had no problems or complaints with mine. As Joe men...
I was at the Shot Show, and was able to handle the new Uberti Silverboy. The action has a very smooth, precise feel, and the rifle is beautifully balanced. Fit and finish are excellent, as we have come to expect from Uberti. The receiver is chrome plated and a similar profile to the Uberti 1866 Yell...
I drilled and tapped my Browning 53 and put a Marbles on it. Once it is fired the collector value is gone anyway. All of mine get fired!! Personally, that would not decrease it's value for me. I would consider that a big PLUS! I think every levergun should come from the factory tapped ...
I use boresnakes as a quick cleanup on CAS guns are "away" events. Very effective and field expedient.
I also use boresnakes with 22 rimfire arms. It has been my experience with the 22s that nothing more is needed as long as I use the boresnake after each session.
