I would use snap caps, but I was mostly cycling the action, with the rifle shouldered, and dry firing, cycling again, repeat as nescessary... A snap cap ( and I would need 4 to 6 of them ) are a bit costly, and are heavy to eject ( I don't think one would eject like an empty case, over my shoulder, ...

I have aquired a 1976 Winchester 94.... and I was wondering about a couple of things - 1) Can dry firing harm it? 2) Can I replace the plastic butt pad with a metal one ( a pre-64 one? )... and where would I get one? I wasn't thinking about doing CAS ( maybe in the future? ). Just looking for a 44 ( or 45! ) lever, and have a thing for Winchesters. It seems that reliability is individual to the rifle.

Hi all... Any opinions out there about the Winchester 94 in 44 Magnum feeding / reliablity? I would love one in that caliber, but keep hearing feed issues ( ie - the action was not designed for pistol cartridges ). If there are issues, can has anyone found them and has solutions? I guess I am just looking at the very small 30 cal hole that my 30-30 makes in the targets, vs the gigantic 73 cal hole of my 12 gauge! Havent used a 44 magnum for about 20 years.
