Re: 348 Winchester for Big Bears
I don’t know but I would think it would be enough gun. It’s close to heavy bullet 30-06 specs, close to 444, 356, 358. It is not far from 338-06, my 338 RCM, 35 Whelan, 350 mag, the 9.3s and such which are considered fine. A guide might want more as he shoots when things are going badly.

Re: What does a Straight Stock Do For You
It doesn’t make much difference to me in feel and some models look better with one or the other to me. I have both straight and PG stocked lever actions. Generally, I think straight stocks go with carbines/short rifles and PGs go with longer rifles. I tend to like a more open pistol grip even on bol...

I think it’s a bad idea. I get they are trying to introduce CWD resistance into the population through genetic introduction. Thing is you are introducing the captive deer’s entire genome into the population which unknown consequences into the future. This could very well reduce the population fitnes...

44Shooter, I have not seen any warnings to avoid the hottest loads in a medium frame Ruger .41 magnum but I am certain that Ruger covered all their bases before releasing these revolvers. Considering their .480 Ruger and .454 Casull revolvers with "Carpenter" alloys used in their cylinder...

. Is a 'medium frame' for a single-action Ruger a regular 'Blackhawk' frame (and the Super Blackhawk the large, and Vaqureo the small...???) Not quite. Original flattop Blackhawks are medium-frame as are the New Vaquero, the 50th anniversary 357 and other modern flattops like this 41. The medium is...

Re: Thinking of a Bolt Gun
You need to go out and examine different makes. Work the bolt, and safety, check out how the bolt locks up and how the magazine system works. There are many similarities, but they are not all the same. Take your time and find out what you like. If you are just getting one, get exactly what you want....

Am I understanding that you are firing LR ammo with a WRF case sleeved around it? If so, how do you extract the sleeve from the cylinder? Do the two cases just stick together? I’m wondering if you can somehow make fixed (but removable) chamber inserts to allow chambering LR or the shorter cartridges...

Re: Is Reloading Getting Too Expensive to Consider?
I would say with that with recurrent ammo supply issues and resulting high prices, it is too expensive not to consider reloading. Yes we still need consumable supplies, but components have a degree of flexibility. Also you can keep making the same load. Factory loads are often discontinued, changed,...

I passed on a $600 one around 2005 and regretted it. Lever action prices have gone way up across the board since then. You don’t see B92s for sale that often. Well made, no added safeties, it probably a great buy assuming there are no mechanical problems

Re: 38 special and other multi cartridge firearms
I have never seen a practical difference. I don’t buy the excessive freebore theory. Any bullet from a revolver has to clear the chamber, bridge the gap, and enter the forcing cone before it engages the rifling. If the ammo and the gun is decent, an extra tenth doesn’t matter. If it were a thing, wa...

One caliber for rifles and handguns, I’m thinking 35 although it’s not my favorite for either. I suppose my 44s would work but I like having a flatter shooting rifle. Give one caliber for each, 30 for rifles, 45 for handguns. Still need a shotgun or three

Eye relief is usually reduced as magnification increases. You could try loosening the rings and pulling the scope back until you get a full field at 8x. Hopefully your field of view will still be fine at lower magnification. That’s a lot of zoom at arms length
