Well there are guys shooting 45 Super in S&W N frames chambered in 45 ACP. These loads are running about 28k psi. The Blackhawk is a lot stronger than any N frame Smith. I would think 30k is plenty safe.

Craig Boddington has written that his 94 trapper will shoot half moa. I saw a photo of his target. Don't remember the load, but I think it was factory. Not the norm, but shows what can happen when everything goes together right.

Just read the Wikipedia page on the XM17 trials. None of the pistols in the trial were chambered in 45. Sig submitted theirs in 9x19 and 357 sig. So who knows?

The United States is not a signatory to The Hague conventions or any other rules prohibiting expanding bullets. Not sure why most all military combat ammo is fully jacketed. Maybe for reliability? I just read that the military will go to hollow point pistol ammo. Plus they want 9mm compatibility. Of course with the Sig, they can switch frames, slides and magazines to have multiple calibers too. I'm betting 40. Very few 45s few have the combination of capacity and ergonomics they would want (although I never considered the Beretta ergonomic either). Have you thought about just putting a tang sight on it? Can you do a CF conversion so you can shoot something like 32 S&W Long? I don't know much about the internals of these rifles. Maybe a locking spring or latch is broken or weakened? neat rifle. Might be worth some work to get it shooting

Rabbits and hares aren't rodents. They do have continuously growing incisors and must gnaw but they have more than four teeth. They are in a different order along with pikas I believe.

My smithing/cleaning bench and my loading bench are covered in green outdoor carpet. It's cheap, thick enough to prevent rolling of small parts, shallow enough to not engulf them, provides good contrast and reflectivity, easy to install with a staple gun.

I wouldn't destroy any salvageable firearm. Those actions are strong and useful even if the barrels are toast. I suggested reboring, but that might not be cost effective.

I wonder if a 35 Rem rebore is possible on #1. #2 might make a good 7x57 or 8x57. Maybe not worth the money and time but you would be shooting.

A tough cheap bolt gun in 35 chopped down between 16 and 18 would be handy for a vehicle

Nice haul. I actually those little grips on the 19. Those Grippers would have to go though. I think if you refinish the 586, you should consider having S&W do it. They have different grades of bluing to offer and it would be a provable factory finish if you keep your invoice.

Without doing any research, I would say $450 is a fair price for a quick sale. A gun store would probably offer you less then sell for more.

The brass rifle is pretty much a straight pull bolt action. The ferrous one is a lever action is reverse. I think either would be fast enough for 1870s technology.
