Re: Youth gun choice for hogs
I would go with the 44. I don't think recoil will be an issue if she wants to shoot. She can use 44 Specials or CAS level loads to get acclimated. Then for hunting, any decent hunting bullet beyond standard Special velocity will do the job and leave a big hole.

I kinda get it for small game and varminting. Then again, an accurate 38/357 isn't that hard to come by and should do great. IMO coyote and beaver are about as large as you should take with a 30-32 pistol cartridge, captive livestock excepted.

You won't hurt your chokes with buckshot. Your choke might hurt the shot though. Only way to find out is to shoot and look at patterns.

I have carried buckshot, especially when I was a little boy starting out. Never shot a deer with it and never had much confidence in it much beyond thirty yards. I think the bulk of the pattern need to hit vital tissue to work reliably. I've heard of long shot kills but I never believed they were a ...

There were plenty of Double actions produced during the 92 Winchester production period. Some even before like my first model DA 44.
I have a pair of Vaqueros but I prefer double actions for general use. With autos, I'm the opposite, so far.

I saw some long 22 inserts for rifles on the Alaskan site. That looks like it might work providing you index it repeatedly as you have observed. Bore dimensions of rifles are much more consistent and that provides support for the tube. And the sights on those rifles are incredibly precise whether op...

Are those actual clocked velocities? You can't rely on published data with greatly reduced barrel lengths. If so I stand corrected. Your Ruger is handily beating a full size 9. I don't see twice of anything though except maybe recoil and noise. Your load from your Ruger is still comparable to 40 per...

Depends on your taste and uses. I have a six inch S&W 586. It's easy to shoot well and is crazy accurate, but it's really too long and heavy to carry holstered very long. A four inch would be better. I think snub noses are too short to benefit the 357 (makes it a loud, fiery, hard kicking 9mm). ...

The more I read and think about it, I'm leaning towards not getting an adapter. It seems like good handgun level accuracy at best at ranges that can be handled with shot. I can use a handgun, even a very small inaccurate one, for the situations I mentioned. For $70 to $120, I don't think it's worth ...

I see inserts ranging from chamber length up to 18 inches. Some of the short ones aren't even rifled. I'm thinking the middle ground is probably the most practical. Perswan, have you called Ruger? If they still have bands in stock, they will be cheap. Wouldn't be surprised if they just mailed you one at no charge. Don't know if the bands are identical to those of the 10/22. If so, they probably have at least a pickup bed full of them.

I would rather have IC and Mod in a double. I also rather have a 20 to reduce size and weight. But for that money, I would jump on it. I might would cut and tube the barrels later or just open one or both chokes. Under $700 for a major brand O/U is a steal these days.

The serial number should be on the receiver. However, it has to be a very modern FN made M70. Parts are made in South Carolina and shipped to Portugal in the last few years.
I haven't seen one assembled in Portugal, but the SC completely made ones seem to be very high quality.

I don't know if he is the best, but Turnbull is the most famous in the gun press. Maybe he is good at marketing or has enough production for his name to be widespread. I'd say his colors look great. I just don't like them on some of the guns he does.

I didn't say Henry was a cheesy brand as a whole. But their making of rifles without loading gates is a marketing ploy, i.e. Branding, to associate their company with the 1860 rifle.
