1947 was a bit before my time, but a wonderful time it must have been. Neighbors more than happy to let you shoot varmint on their land, no animal rights people screaming, Ozzie and Harriet on TV; and you didn't have to lock your house, vehicle or whatever. I wax a bit nostalgic.

22 Marciante Blue Streak
How many of you have heard of the Marciante Blue Streak? I was reading an old book, Twenty two Caliber Varmint Rifles by C.S.Landis, circa, 1947. This was a wildcat developed in 1941 by Al Marciante of Princeton, N.J.. Based on a blown out 22 Savage Hi-Power with a 25 degree shoulder, it was reputed...

Re: Interest in 22 hornet...
Used to have a Sav.340 in Hornet and presently have a CZ527 in Hornet. Years ago I glass bedded the Sav. and it shot the lights out. 1/2 inch groups at 100 yds. My CZ shoots 1/2 inch groups at 50 yds. I had a 6X Weaver on the Savage and a 2X Leupold on the CZ. I have settled on 9.5 gr. 2400, 45 gr. ...

Recent purchase
Recently purchased a Ruger 44 carbine, circa 1965, with a vintage 1X Weaver mounted on it. Haven't shot it, too many other things to shoot. It looks almost new, very, very nice. Probably paid too much, $925, but it is mine.

Tman, glad to see a Pontiac man. Owned two 67 GTO's, '57 Pontiac Super Chief, '40 International PU with a small block Chevy 400. The Super Chief had the V8347 ci. That thing wouldn't accelerate fast, but it was steady. I took it to 110 and lost my nerve for any faster. The GTO's were pure Pontiac gr...

I understand those that would criticize those who condemn suicide on the basis of ' it is up to the individual to choose for himself'. I agree that it is their right to decide what is right for them. However, as one of those who has been left to clean up the mess, let me say that it is indeed selfis...

Your new year's resolution is right on target, to be the man God wants you to be. You would not have made that resolution if you weren't already a good ways towards being the man God wants you to be. A man who doesn't care would not have even thought like that. God speed to you and his family; may G...

Texas isn't that tough a neighborhood. Just be careful what you say, and smile when you say that. Jeff Cooper, I believe, said a polite society is an armed society.

Re: Need HELP ! Sizing
You said bore diameter is .376. I have a Win. made 1905 with a .376 bore. I find if I am sizing bullets from .381 to .376, it is hard to make them shoot. My rifle shoots jacketed .375 220 gr. Hornady flat points well (3" at 100yd.). Those bullets sized from .381 to .376 shoot 5" at 100 yds.

Got a 1894 Winchester, serial #489XXX, in 32/40 that I am going to begin loading for. I'll use Lyman's 319247 bullet. Any suggestions regarding powder and charge? I was thinking Unique (made by Hercules)7.5-8.0 gr. 4759 ought to be suitable? What do you guys think?

Here in Texas I have seen every color of wild hog there is. Jet black to pure white, red, red and black, tan and black, even that pinto color mixed with other colors. With all the colors, sometimes you might mistake one for a peacock.

Minimum wage? What is a minimum wage? Why stop at $9 hr? Why not $12 an hr? Wait, I have a better idea. Make it $40 hr. Obviously, it is all silly. They make arbitrary wages out of what, thin air. People will work for what they pay, and are glad to get it. If not, quit. The market will make it what ...

Thanx, w30wcf. I have 2 boxes, the newest looking is definitely the 1946-1960 era box. The other has a tape tear on the right side of the box so I cannot confirm an 'r' or a 4 numeral number; but it looks like a darker green than the newer one.

Bubba have you chronographed that 9.0 gr of 2400 and the 120 bullet? I shot my PPS with those 9.5 2400 loads today and they certainly do not seem high psi. Primers look rather mild. I loaded this stuff back in June, 1996, so maybe 2400 has changed since then.

Go to the Avenue of the Giants if you are looking for Redwood. It is in the neighborhood of Eureka. Also, just south of Eureka is a town named Fortuna. It is a throwback in time. Practicality has nothing to do with either. Make it easy on yourself. Buy both for Christmas, and let your wife choose which of the two she wants. A good wife would even cast bullets for herself and you. Merry Christmas.

Re: 32/20 loads in the 1873 Winchester
I am responding not to be argumentative, but to provoke a little thought. I took the 9.5gr. 2400 load from the 44th Edition Lyman Reloading Handbook. Note, this is for a 100 gr. bullet, not a 115 gr. Lyman gives as a factory duplication load for the 100gr. jacketed bullet 9.3 gr. 2400 powder for a v...

32/20 loads in the 1873 Winchester
I have an 1873 win. made in 1919, chambered in 32/20. I was thinking of shooting some ammo I loaded for my Colt Police Positive in the 73. The load is 100 gr. jacketed with 9.5gr. 2400 behind it. Better safe than sorry, I thought I would get everyone's thoughts on the matter.

If I was proficient with my phone camera, I would include a pic. I am looking at my 141 with the vintage 3/4" Weaver model 29S with a side mount attached with those big Weaver mounting screws on the left side of the receiver. The mount curls over the receiver thus making the scope directly over...

Re: Somethin'-Somethin' for the wife... What gun?
Many times a woman can show a woman how to operate a pistol. If you know a woman who is proficient at operating said pistol, have her show your wife how to do it. I tried showing my wife the slide racking procedure, and she could not 'get' it until a female shooting acquaintance showed my wife how t...
