What can you all tell me about the 250 Savage? Thinking of getting one to play and possibly hunt with.

Joe,
+1 on the octagon barreled models. I own a H0001T and I absolutely love it. I have about 1500 rounds through mine and it seems to be getting more accurate all the time. Shotgun shells are no trouble at 40 yards if I do my part.
Good luck, Tom

57.5 grains is your winner. No need to pull a bore snake through after each shot either. If the barrel is broken in you should shoot until the rifle tells you it needs cleaning. I have noticed that a rifle will shoot more accurately fouled. The bore will "settle down" after it has fouled t...

Yup. Barrel heat. Stick to 3 shot groups. This really only pertains to sporter weight barrels, although I've had heavy barrels do it too.

Thanks for the help. A few things...the arrows I shoot now are 340 spine with a total weight of 385 grains, I shoot a "D" loop with a release, and it's a compound bow. I have a self imposed limit of 30 yards on game shots. So speeds under 200 don't bother me. My old Bear compound was aroun...

45-70 without hesitation. Bullets from 250 to 550 grains, in numerous profiles. Not picky as far as powder is concerned. Cat sneeze up to elephant whomper loads, still relatively available, from NUMEROUS factory ammo companies.
And just plain fun to shoot!

From what I understand the 168s work well at least to 600 yds. ....actually much further. The shooters who favor heavier bullets either want more energy and/or less wind drift. Remember that doping wind is the great equalizer at long range matches or shooting. This was taken from, http://www.palma....

Let your rifle do the talkin'..........then ask if they want to stand out in front of it and catch a few.
You practice with it, and get good. You should have no problem makin' killing shots further than those gun store rangers do from their counter-tops.
Have fun !!

12 grains of Trail Boss is mild and fun with 405 cast in the 45-70. Around 950 fps.
14 grains will get you 1150fps with a cast 300.

:D Nope. Not an issue. Most people can't hold for a 1-2 MOA parallax shift @ 200 yards to know the difference. Consistent cheek weld will be more important than the parallax. If you feel uncomfortable call Leupold, they will change the parallax setting to 100 or 150 yards for you for a small fee (or...
