222 is a fine cartridge had a 722 in that cal had a 26" bull barrel topped with a steel 6x varmint weaver gave it to my BIL he re-chambered it to 223, it will shoot up to 55 gr just fine with the 1-14 barrel he has been cleaning out coyotes and rock chucks along with the occasional speed goat....

That is good news casastahle! Sounds like you can get a tang sight on the old girl. I can tell you tang sights have helped me with these 55yr. old eyes.One of my friends uses the Idea w30wcf suggest. And his shooting with open sights has improved !,,,,DT

Hey KirkD ,should get the poly wads in soon and give them a try. I think the poly wads should help. I was not suprised that the long 252 gr. bullets did not stabilize ,with the ROT of the 38wcf. Thanks for the Kind words fellows. The old 40-60 Winchester has taken untold numbers of Wild Hog in my hands ,some Wt. Deer , and a any Varmint that I run across that needs trimming back.It is a handy to take along rifle and I manage three Hunting ranchs here in Texas, so it gets a good bit of use ....

Good info about the chronoghraph use. I have one on order ,just left the range tried the loads I mentioned above. The 38gr. 2ff Swiss ,180 gr. soft bullet and veg. wad did OK about 3" @ 50yd. not great! The 252 gr. bullet over 30gr. 2ff Swiss looked like I was throwing clothes irons at the targ...

Dusty, What's your technique for getting a full 40 grains in the brass? I can get 38 in no problem. 40 grains through the drop tube fills the brass even with the rim. Griff are you getting more bearing surface on the 200 gr. 452 over the 185gr.? I want to stay with this bullet if possible,in my case a harder bullet may not strip as much . Looks like speed may be helping the spin.
