My 464 heavily prefers Remington corlokt 170s and the federal 170s. Those group under 1.5", while 150 grain bullets average around 3" at 100 yards

Used Marlins are hard to find, and if you do...it appears they were used as crowbars or walking sticks. Truly atrocious condition. I'll handle some and visit all the funshops I can.

If it shoulders nicely, might try a youth Marlin 30-30. I've got a scoped 30-30 already, so I just want a compact rifle with plenty of power that will fit into a scabbard. A versatile "camp" rifle.

Living in the Peoples Republic of Yorkistan, my options are limited. 44 ammo and 30-30 are plentiful lately, just if you had to choose, 44 mag trapper or 30-30 20" carbine

I've been lucky enough to get a promotion at work. So with my new found cashflow, I am between a choice of two utility rifles. A fun store near me has a Rossi 92 44 mag trapper, but 20" 30-30 rifles are quite common. I don't reload, and 44mag and 30-30 ammo are equally priced. So.....Rossi 44.....

I've run about 1000 rounds out of my 94ae 44 mag and perhaps 400 through my 464 30-30. Neither has needed disassembly. I clean the bore often and use a quick clean solvent on the action periodically. I follow up with lubrication and I mop up any excessive with qtips and cloth. Never having known the...

My mossberg is a tough, well made rifle. With 150 weight bullets, the groups are about 3". The 170 corelokts will group 1.5" every time.

It took about 200 rounds to smooth out the action.

On the subject of 35s, has anyone seen 35 Remington factory cartridges for sale? New York seems to have none. From smalltime shops to major retailers, no 35 Remington can be found.

They all occurred within 60 miles of each other. The fatal EF-2 was in Smithfields, near Oneida. The other three were near Lowville, Deerfield, and New London.

Four tornadoes in New York

A little taste of tornado alley in New York yesterday. Three EF-1 twisters and one EF-2. The EF-2 claimed the lives of four people. Most people I know got through the storm without incident, but prayers for the lost lives and people who lost their homes to wind and downed trees.

The xtps I have are hollowpoints. 357 has been pretty rare in New York. I won't use that aluminum cased junk to hunt deer, but what I've managed to buy is american eagle 158 jsp and a few boxes or hornady custom 158 xtp. Figure around 1700 fps rifle velocity, it should do the job from what you fine ...

One time on a woods road on state land, with only one way out, a pickup was following me about 200 yards back. At one of the few pull over spots, I stopped my car and proceeded to load 5 rounds of 240 grain jhps into my Winchester 94 ae 44 mag. I stood at the hood of car, rifle slung on my shoulder....

Hail Yorkistan! I sadly live here. My local fun store has a couple of those modified ARs in stock. $1050 give or take. The mags are removable, so you could throw in a 30 round if you had one (felony). On the bright side, I got 1000 rounds of 22 from that store before the mob cleared the shelves of it!

At $40 a mag, gonna take the rifle to ruger repair and replace the mag. Cycled about 30 magnum rounds yesterday and cleaned it.

Leupold vx1 is a good scope for the money. I have no experience with new red fields but they do have good reviews. If the scope is destined for a 22, try to find one with a 50 yard or adjustable parallax.

I put a 3-10x BSA on my 223 and have no complaints. $80

northeast and midwest hunters: need advice on rabbits

I live in Central NY with primarily maple/ash woods with pockets of hemlock/fir/spruce/pine. I've seen plenty of rabbit tracks but never hunted them.

What is the best tree/cover type to find them in? What is your long arm of choice to hunt them? Any advice is welcome.

Their 44mag, from what I've read, is loaded a little higher than most "domestic" ammunition. I am glad most everyone had a favorable experience with Fiocchi. Hoping to use the 240sp as a bambi buster in the future.

With regard to the ammo shortage and increasing prices, I bought some 44 mag Fiocchi 240 sp and 240 xtp ammo. Can anyone give testimonial to the quality, accuracy, and power of this ammo? Gunblast tested it with 320 grain flat point hardcast. Accuracy for most of his loads was 1.5" to 2.5" @ 100 yards. Wish I had the money for a 77/44. Looks nice.

Bought a 1300 ranger at wal-mart 11 years ago for $260. Would love to go back in time and get the full tube defender. The speedpump system is pretty nice.

A really nice 590 with 8 round capacity and nice sights runs $550 where I live. I have never even seen a 930 for sale. Either they sell fast or the distributors cannot get them. Is that a fair price for a 590?

Just looking for some informed opinions. For an "assault rifle " in New York, the choices are few. I like my Mossbergs, so what do I get? The 7 shot tactical 590 or the 930? Money is tight, so the question is whether the semiautomatic is worth it. Opinions?
