Re: First 45 colt in a lever action

It was the patents that prevented other manufactuers from chambering their guns for the .45 Colt. The small rim didn't have much to do with it. I have lots of the old balloon head cases and have run them through my win 94, Marlin 1894, and a Rossi 92 copy with no problems. The biggest problem I had...

Re: First 45 colt in a lever action

It does seem kind of strange at first glance that it took so long for a levergun to be made in that chambering. We've got folks on this site that know a lot more about cartridge design history, collecting them and all of that who can set me straight if I get this wrong. My understanding (based off s...

I fell into the chance to get one of the Mauser "new production" (I think I might be dating myself; it's got Interarms markings and they've been defunct for how long?) ones awhile back. Appeared unfired when I got it. I remember these being spendy by the standards of the day in Gun Digest ...

It's good, for a certain definition of the word, to have verification on what I was told elsewhere. I do know that there were actually two sets in the Gun Library of the nearest Cabela's not too long after I got hold of mine and all four guns had some surface rust, but nothing like mine.

I think I recall an article in Rifle magazine, probably in the mid 1980s, that talked about doing that conversion and how it worked.
