Thank you.
I knew it was not real old.
That was the year I bought my first house,
and asked my best girl to marry me.
Over 27 years later that girl and I
are still together, and she still lets me buy guns.
Thanks again.

I'd like to find out when my Marlin was made. I just picked up a Golden 39A today. There are wear marks on the stock and bluing, some spots of bluing that I need to polish, but otherwise it is a clean gun for shooting. All the edges are sharp. Wood to metal fit is better than most I have seen. Buttp...

question on marlin 336 prices
I see a LOT of adds for the Marlin 336 as a scoped combo. The guns are usually regular priced about $350, sometimes $379. They are on sale ALL the time for $300 for the combo. Now we see these for sale all the time on the computer, in stores, etc. Why is it they everyone wants $350 to $375 for this ...

ANY factory 100 grain load put in the right spot will do a good job.
I buy the cheapest first and see if it is accurate.
So far, never had to buy a different kind.
My most used factory load is a Federal Classic Series

That saddle was not built for a very big person.
Look at the space in front and in back of the kid.
I doubt it was a youth model, and remember, most people were not very large back then.
This picture could have been taken at
what passed for a resort in the early 1900's.

I have seen the metal, military ammo cans full of different types of ammo, that have been through a fire. Most were still mostly intact. Hey adirondakjack, I was really just addressing the original post. I understand the modern 45 brass can be loaded to much hotter levels and with heavier bullets. You will always have to worry about someone using hot loads in guns that might not handle them. I know of at least one S&W Model 25-5 ...

Re: OT - Why was the .44 Mag. developed.?
You are all forgetting something that EK talked about. Many of the 45 cases back then were balloon head cases. They were too thin at the mouth to be hot-rodded to the levels the 44 could be taken to. Also, recall that the 44 Special was renowned for it's accuracy back then. EK would want accuracy wi...

I would use a cleaning rod and a .45 caliber brush.
It will go down the bore.
If you carbibe allows it, do it from the rear.
Usually a little turn or two and the broken case will come right out.

I am no expert, but here is what I think I know. I am under the understanding that current factory 45 Colt ammo is loaded using the .452 diameter bullets. A .44 caliber cap n' ball uses .454 lead round balls. The lead is swaged down and forms a tight seal when fired. I always thought it funny" ...
