I have owned the Winchester's, Marlin's and Henry's and they were all good. However, I know own the Browning and I prefer it. It is easy to the shoulder, handles well and is very accurate. I like the short stroke also.

Joe, Have you recently changed the type of bore cleaner you use? Some cleaners keep on working, even after you think they are gone. I use Wipe Away (liquid form mostly) and it is like that. It sounds to me like copper deposits where lifted while the guns were idle. Have you been using Windex before?...

I have a BLR 450 Marlin TD stainless and my opinion is the barrel, lever and other related parts are stainless, but the receiver is not. I think it is a matt type aluminum.

I recently got lucky and found a late 70's era Thompson Center Hawken rifle kit on Gun Broker. It arrived last night and I found the interior packaging was still sealed. :D I do believe the stock and ram rod have sufficently aged and cured. My opinion is the Lyman, but not the Hunter as it is a Sabot round barrel only. Just the plain ole Lyman Great Plains is a very good ML.

There is a good article in the April 2009 American Rifleman magazine about those rifles. It appears that very few Keenes were ever made, with 250 rifles going to the Navy and 600 carbines going to the Indian Police via the government in the 1880's. The article notes some civilian models were made.

I received the rifle today. Their shipping was slow, but the rifle is NIB. It does have a scuff mark on the stock, but nothing bad. Nath, I also bulit some kit rifles from CVA - many years ago. They were not too bad for the times, but I know I can get better accuracy today as there are more quality builders.
