Todd, I may have seen that online. Mine is a 416/284 McPherson with a 30* shoulder instead of 40 degree on a Model '88 Winchester that is still in process of being built.
McPherson did build a 416/284 on a Savage '99 as well. The '88 has a stronger action though being a front locker. -Tutt

MM, that is an outstanding find for sure! COTW 9th page 124 says the 40-70 Ballard and 40-63 Ballard will chamber in older 40-65 rifles but the 40-65 case will not fit the other chamber. It notes that firing the smaller diameter cases could result in a case wall rupture and they discourage the idea....

Doc, my best friend and I chronographed Hornady 300 grain factory 454 loads between his 16 inch barrel, and my 20 inch barrel years ago. The difference was only 50 fps. Your in good hands. -Tutt

Yeah, I had just put together a 6.5-284 to use at the CO Dynamite shoot and then it was cancelled!!

It was unissued and coated with cosmoline, I have a 1942 Savage #4 Mark 1* that I found years ago in the same condition. Paid $300 for it. I had to restore the wood after stripping the cosmoline off of it but its the prettiest Enfield I have ever seen now. Its worth is 4xs that now it looks like. C...
