Minwax golden oak (or darker if you like). Practice on a shed first.

Re: Laid Off? Need work? Post it here and lets network!
I've been seeing on the news latelty that the unemployment rate is going down.... so I guess everybody's getting back to work then? OR is it that the 99 weeks are ending? At some point, that has to start happening and the rates "fall" as a result. I somehow doubt that employment has picke...

Re: can you still buy strike anywhere matches?
Yep, ACE hardware has them. I too have heard they are not what they used to be. In addition, they degrade over time, so a 'lifetime supply' may go bad on you. I have some from the late 80's/early 90's that are bad. I just bought a box at ACE, but have not tried them out yet.

Re: Which is better, RED RIVER or THE SEARCHERS?
Rio Bravo and El Dorado appear to be the same movie with different characters. John Ford said no - what would you expect him to say. They are. Rio Lobo is essentially the same as well. IMO, Rio Bravo is the best (and the first in sequence). El Dorado is a close second, and Rio Lobo is pretty bad. R...

Searchers. Rio Bravo is also a good one. You watching Red River on TCM right now?

Re: Trade my GP-100 for a .357 Ruger Blackhawk
I would stick with wood or another hard grip. Not only do they tend to look better but the gun can roll up, which reduces felt recoil.

Re: Winchester of Browning 1886
O.K., I looked up the misfiring problem. It looks like the fix involves shortening a part that engages the hammer. I am still interested in opinions on the various 86'es out there. I should have bought the Browning back in 92!

Re: Winchester of Browning 1886
So, what is the fix to the rebounding hammer? Do you just swap it out for one with a half-cock notch, or is it more involved?

Winchester of Browning 1886
Teach me about the 1886. I have a yearning for one and am facing a choice. My interest was stimulated by looking at the Browning 1886 carbine made in 1992. They seem to be hard to find. I have a line on a new Winchester 1886 Short Rifle. The price is $1030. Is this a good price? How do the new Winch...

Re: The Kings deer. Really?
My take: they are the people's deer, not the landowners (what, you want to be King?). One reason we have regulation is to prevent a patchwork of landowners exploiting their fiefdoms by killing all the deer. I ‘own’ a small portion of the national forest, yet it does not give me the right to exploit ...

Re: Convert Pre 64 to trapper?
Thanks to all for the advice. I have looked from the muzzle end and it *appears* as if the rear sight/dovetail is at top dead center, while the integral front sight base is rotated a bit clockwise. The front sight base is not screwed on. It looks like it is silver soldered on, but it might be machin...

Convert Pre 64 to trapper?
All, I have a pre 64 (flat band) M94 that I am considering having the barrel shortened on (insert screeching and howling noise here). The receiver has most of the finish worn off with a nice old patina on it. The barrel is original and marked 30 WCF and the stock is in O.K. shape, a long wood forend...
