Not a 44 mag but I've got one in 375 wcf and my most used load is a cast 245 over 10 grains Unique ( sound familiar?). It's a fun little rifle.

Thanks for all the replies, seems I had concerns over something that's largely a non-issue. Guess I'll load up the Rossi .44 to replace the AR I usually throw in the truck. That would be interesting to try, the heaviest I've shot was a 330 Gould sized down to .452 launched at about 1100. No idea of the penetration but I doubt it was like that stomper.

With the plethora of dimensions that have to play nice together, picking up older revolvers (heck, new ones too) is always a crapshoot. I'm always pleased when I get something that performs well without having to tinker with it.

I wish I hadn't passed up the AWA's back when they were in production. I did run across a 45 last year but it was a bit too spendy for the condition. A friend has an unmolested example in .44 Special, it's a nice gun.

My experience mirrors the Docs on both counts, I find lost things and soon as I buy a replacement, and the Paco tool shrinks groups with bulk ammo by about a third. I've got the multi- diameter 4 hole version but found that .224 works best for most guns.

I've got 32 rounds remaining of the 240's loaded over 12.5 of HS6 - there were 44 still loaded out of a box of 50 but I ran a dozen through the OM Flattop last Friday morning. They still go where they're supposed to.

I miss those, especially the 240 gr. It was only in the last 10-15 years that I discovered they were discontinued when I went to restock after shooting up the last of my stash.

I use 12.5 HS6 with that bullet though I no longer recall why I dropped the 1/2 grain, but yeah, it's an exceptional load. I use an old dozer tooth for a mid range target and it'll bowl that over more often than a 44 mag does. Probably helped along by that Dwell Time thing the IHMSA guys like.
