Re: one shot with a 44 or 45 lever, whats you load
I'd go with the most powerful load that I can shoot accurately. It's been a while but I sometimes play with something I call The Bear Drill, one shot on each of three paper plates on successively lower stands at 25, 15 and 3 yards, Par time is 3 seconds. I've pulled it off with both a Guide Gun (sta...

Thank you for the information. I've been wanting to try PowerPistol for a couple of years, but haven't picked any up yet. For a while it was pretty hard to find. I've been really happy with it in 44 mag (medium loads) & Special, both 45ACP & Colt, and 38 Special. If it weren't for the scarc...

I have found that 7.0 gr of Power Pistol at about 840 fps works better for me than any other combination using 429421 bullets. Thanks, I've yet to try PP. Is that into the +P territory or just standard pressure? 8.2 grains is max at standard pressure with Power Pistol and the Keith bullet (accordin...

45 ACP Loads
Rather than derail JimT's 44 Special thread I'm starting this one. Back when I started reloading I initially learned on the 45ACP. I've had 4 of them, all pre-Series II guns. Kimber's slides and frames are good quality and the early guns were well put together, though QC started to slide right around Y2K. Their biggest issue outside of sometimes sloppy assembly is longevity of the MIM parts. The surface hardening of the MIM ham...

Pre-27? Very nice. The 5 and 3 1/2" barrels seem to be the Goldilocks lengths when it comes to N frames, odd that they made comparatively few of them given their popularity.

I've only had one .357 and never owned a .41, so in my limited experience the .44's have been the most consistently accurate out of the box. I've had a couple .45's that were spectacular after opening the throats, but as-built, not so much.

The 9 is definitely harsher on the ears. Regarding the 45acp-44Special comparison, I try not to shoot anything without ear pro these days but my younger self didn't find a 5" 1911 objectionable though a Commander would make my ears ring - both outdoors. Indoors anything is bad, some are worse.

That's one of Skeeter's best, although he wrote on the .357 quite a bit. There's another where he laid out his idea of the perfect .357, which I believe strongly influenced the Lipsey's 5" half-lug GP100. I bet if Ol' Skeeter was still around he'd be tickled with the FA97.
