Re: Initiation To A Tree Stand
I can totally relate to this tale, having been initiated into the tree stand world in my early teens. I fell out of the tree climbing down one time, as one of my legs had fallen asleep sitting there and it wasn't working right yet. As I fell the cuff of my Levi's snagged in between a limb and the tr...

Having been an Air Wing Marine I spent some time on Naval Air Stations and don't ever recall corn in the hash, although it sounds like it might be pretty good. I do have mostly good memories of Navy chow, with the exception of a mass food poisoning episode via fried rabbit at NAS Memphis. Spent clos...

I'm another vote for buy it but leave it as is. The .375 bore, whether WCF or H&H, makes its own distinctive businesslike note. I shoot mine with 38-55 level loads for the most part but keep a box stoked with RL7 and 220 Hornadys on hand for serious work. They're pretty hard on coyotes...

Well, I mis-remembered. I just checked and found that I loaded the collar buttons with 7gr of Unique - in any case, that's well below any listed start load I've seen for that bullet. The lowest velocity published load I've seen was 21gr of IMR4227 for 1245 f/s at 5200 cup. 12gr of either Bullseye or...

I've shot the collar buttons with 7gr (edit) of Unique and no filler/wad/dacron. I chamber them gently and elevate the muzzle to position the powder before firing. Decent 25 yard accuracy and the report is about like a champagne cork popping. I need to load some up with a wad of some sort to hold th...

They're fun to watch, as they seem to flow around things rather than walk. I had one around a campsite years ago that I was trying to bait with bits of sandwich just to get a better look. Either it was smarter than me (which is entirely possible), or they can teleport.

Those M1922's are really neat. 30 years back or so, a friend had one that he'd bring camping and I shot it any chance I got. He wouldn't part with it - matter of fact, he didn't bring it camping anymore once he figured out what is was worth!

Nice. Is this a new acquisition? I've got a 64 Deluxe from the early 50's, it's nearly pristine on one side and rubbed smooth on the other - I suspect it spent a lot of time in a saddle scabbard. I don't think there's a more natural feeling rifle for quick offhand shooting than a 64.
