Jim, Othias over at C&Rsenal on youtube swears by Ballistol for cleaning all kinds of stuff, especially black powder firearms. Nontoxic and can be used on wood too. Softens BP fouling and prevents rust from forming. BTW, Ballistol is one of the sponsors of C&Rsenal. HTH

Question for you guys. H335 is supposed to be the canister grade to WC844. I've worked up a load of 27gr WC844 with 55gr bullets, has anyone here tried 27gr H335 with 55gr bullets? All the powder manuals I have list a grain or two below that.

Do what I do, get yourself a section of brass brazing rod, mark the barrel with a lead pencil and tap until you're sighted in. Before I got the brass brazing rod I used to use the rim of a 30/30 DUMMY cartridge to drift the sight. Hope that helps. YMMV

Not sure if you'll use it, but that same manual lists 25gr 2400 with the Sierra 150gr spitzer in .308W at 2,215. Might go good with 30/30 bullets instead of the spitzer. Might just try that load myself. Some 30 years ago I worked up a load of 26gr of SR 4759 with 30/30 150gr bullets that was ...

1992 Hercules manual lists 14.9gr 2400 with Speer 45gr Spitzer at 3,030fps. I don't want to go anywhere near that with the 45gr XTP type hollow point. Maybe 1500 to 2000 fps. It also lists 14gr 2400 with the 55gr FMJ at 2,685fps. Might try 12gr 2400 with the 45 grainer though. What's your thought on...

Let me guess, 8gr 2400? Already use 10gr 2400 with RCBS 58gr cast bullets in .223 that's some 2k fps. Ya came through again, Ray.
BTW, also have some SR4759 if you have any suggestions on that powder.

JimT, Lee sells a 105gr SWC mold, that might work for light defense loads for you.

Didn't read the whole article, but I find the same problem with current Winchester 30/30 cases. I've got some empty factory cases that extend long enough that I can load the RCBS 30-180-FN bullet without the gas check extending past the base of the neck.
