Yup, it has a barrel nut alright. I too wish it had good iron sights. But there is nothing saying that we can't mount a good set on there!

bulldog1935, If you don't mind me asking; what size did you get? I am thinking about having him build me a matched set of all four sizes, but I can't make up my mind on the handle material. I think you will be very happy with your new knife. Josh's work is very good and the design is aesthetically a...

Re: What are your favorite"hunting knives" & where to buy them?
My absolute favorite knives are made by Spring Creek Knife Works in Nebraska. He makes four different sizes , all the same design. They are very comfortable in the hand and I now carry one as my every day knife. I think the web site is www.sc-kw.com.

Re: Is work slowing down for you?
I work as a machinist and gunsmith and have been lucky enough that we are working 60 plus hours a week right now. A lot of folks are deciding to fix some guns and keep them instead of getting rid of them and it's really been good for business.

Re: OT MANNLICHER CARBINE
Barbarosa, Get it!!!!!! You will not be sorry. I agree with the above posts about the quality and craftsmanship that went into the Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles. I am the proud owner of three original Mannlichers: 1952 carbine in 7x57mm, 1952 rifle in 30-06, and a 1961 in .358 Winchester. I would not...

Absolutely, positively the Savage in .358. A truly great cartridge, very underated. My first centerfire was a .358, and I would not trade it for anything.

I could not say it better than Wrangler John put it. It's come to the point where I look for levers at the gun shop and nothing else. The only rifles I have now that are not levers are two Mannlicher-Schoenauers and a Winchester 62A.

Re: What to buy(30-30,45-70, 444..)
Wow, This has generated a lot more than I thought! 76/444 has sparked an interest in customizing I have considered, but dismissed in the past due to the "collector' value of the Winnie 86's. Then again, I don't collect guns, I buy then to hunt and enjoy. Also, I did not mean to imply that I do ...

What to buy(30-30,45-70, 444..)
I went down to my local shop and am trying to decide on which Marlin levergun to buy. I have never owned a Marlin before(I have several Winchesters and Brownings). They have a 336 in 30-30, and one in 35 Remington, had a 444XLR, and an 1895 45-70 with 22 inch barrel, and one in the Guide gun configu...

Re: Cases splitting at the mouth
Hobie,
yes, the ammo is the same. it is some of the commemorative ammo that Winchester ran in 87-88 for the Browning Model 71's that came out then. I am having him see if the ammo was all from the same lot # so we can mike them as Gunsmith suggested.

348WCF Cases splitting at the mouth
hope someone here on the board can help with this one.... My father just received a Ruger #3 back from the gunsmith who rebored and chambered it for the 348WCF. He has shot a couple boxes of Winchester factory ammo through the gun(about two weeks ago) and had no trouble. He took the gun out today an...

I know of a gentleman by the name of Nick Tooth at Elephant & Castle in Ozark , Missouri that could certainly do a great job on your rifles for you. Don't know what his workload is, but have seen some doubles he has restored that exhibit excellent craftsmanship.
Good luck
