Re: POLL: Help me pick my next gun
I'd be ok with the shottie. But, you're also light on the 9mm handgun side. I'm a big fan of the Hi Power. My wife has a Charles Daly, good gun. I've got an Argy FN (not FM) it was made in Belgium but assembled in Argentina for the police there. The Hi Power is John Browning's 9mm and in my estimati...

Re: I almost blew it..BIG WARNING
Add me to the list. I also measure each load, then seat the bullet before going on to the next one. This has been the system I use since catching a double charge of Winchester 231 with some .38 specials in the block. Glad you caught it in time.

Re: POLITICS - Let the " NO " voters know where you stand.
I've already written to both senators and my rep. I've let them know that voting yes for this would guarantee my vote for their opponent in their next election. Both sides pander to the middle class, but then neither side does anything for the middle class. The Dems aren't interested in anyone but f...

I don't know if any of you are familiar with Dave Ramsey, he's a financial advisor who has a radio show and a tv show on Fox Business. He wrote "Financial Peace." I like his plan better than any I've heard. Here's a link to his plan at his website: http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/fed_bailout...

Re: POLITICS - Where were YOU on 9-11-2001?
I was at home and got a phone call from "Crazy" Eddie. Eddie's passed away now, he was an old Viet Nam veteran who was crazy like a fox. He said, "Turn on your tv, Bin Laden's attacked us." This was before the second plane hit. Eddie, of course, was right. I think we should have ...

Well, even at 57 years of age, if I'm ever impolite I have to cringe...I'm waiting for Grandma to give me a swat with the stick. God bless her, I burned it up in the stove once and she just went out and got a bigger stick. Too many kids nowdays need bigger sticks.

Re: Win 94 rescue
I agree with John on keeping the finish. I had a friend who was a master luthier and vintage guitar restorer. If there were paint marks on an old Martin or Gibson, he would carefully scrape them off with a nylon flat pick (the normal style guitar pick but it must be nylon...the translucent nylon is ...

There's an amazing amount of knowledge here. I'm printing all of this to save.
Mostly, I'm thinking in terms of hunting, but once I reach that initial goal, I'm going to continue on. And these posts will be of tremendous help. Thanks much to all.

JimT,
That's funny. I'm going to send this to my son. He's majoring in Homeland Security at college.

Our prayers go out to those in the storm area, especially the Hagler and Smith families.

Good info and tips. Rjohns, that was one of the things I wondered. Just how much the sights themselves would interfere at long ranges. Reo, I have a friend who is helping me with the fundamentals. None of the local stores had snap caps for the 30-30 and I thought I'd have to send away until I starte...

How far can you shoot with iron sights?
I'm virtually a newbie with lever guns and rifles in general. I owned a .22lr remington semi-auto many years ago and went deer hunting for a couple of seasons using a Marlin 444 without much practice, so that's it. I do shoot handguns quite a bit, though. Anyway, I bought a Winchester 94 30-30 recen...

Re: Weatherproofing a 94 for hunting.
You fellas are great. I'm getting a lot of really good ideas here. I'll get some Barricade and Johnson's wax (is that a carnauba base?). The poly stock idea is good, but the wood on it came stripped, I'm thinking of just waterproofing this as well as I can and then getting some nicer finished stocks...

Weatherproofing a 94 for hunting.
Looking for a deer rifle, I got a Winchester 1894, manufactured 1969. I've always wanted a Winchester 1894 and this one had a Kwik-Site mount with an oversized scope that I'm changing (don't hate me for having a scoped 94 :) I'm already itching to get another one that I can restore). Our hunting sea...
