What Doug said, but in 6.5 Grendel. Sub-MOA groups with almost zero recoil in a cartridge with huge accuracy potential. Drop it in a Boyd's wood stock and don't look back. Loaded Grendel on the right, Creedmoor on the left.

Jim, they are wonderful revolvers. I still kick myself for not buying a friend's Model 13 several decades ago. It was as near as perfect as any revolver I have handled, and would have been a great one to work up .38-44 Outdoorsman level loads in.

Years ago I handloaded for a Marlin Cowboy in .45-70 and figured the classic Remington jacketed 405-grain bullet at about 1800 -- well below full steam -- ought to be pleasant shooting. I was "mistook."

It's about cowboys and cattle all right -- but Aussies driving their herds from the Northern Territories to Queensland rather than just shoot them lest they fall into the hands of the invading Japs.* Based on real events in 1942 and shot in 1946, with a lot of non-professionals in addition to the ac...

Redneck, your curse would strike many of us as a blessing, until we factored in depredation of our hard-earned crops. Your experience with the the big .45 slugs suggests the "Old Dead Guys" knew a thing or two about how to decommission large mammals. Be curious how that 405-grain slug woul...

I'd ask a friend with one if you can wear it with your preferred belt and "see how she feels." Many here have favorite holster makers. For Old West styles, Stan Dolega at Wolf Ears up in Laramie has never, ever disappointed me over the past few decades, and that goes for his belts as well....

Guess that Marlin is on the way to Oregon by now, but Joe, did you consider the "first wildcat," the .35-30? The .38-55 is older and probably better, but the .35-30 is practical and capable as well, although the .360 Buckhammer might have the edge.

I'd want a bull barrel on that 94 if running higher-end .444 loads. I briefly owned a Ruger No. 1 in that caliber and found it less than fun to shoot with full-patch loads, but then I have been descending into recoil sissydom for decades now.

My first .22 was a tired old Model 1890 with ugly stock repairs and, it turned out, a shot-out barrel, but I sure loved that thing. Bought it for $30 (Dad paid half) from the old Chet Paulson's gun shop in Tacoma, WA, about 1965.
