Re: Another 250th anniversary
Heard a story on NPR on the anniversary and they read a letter from a British officer and from a soldier patriot who were in the battle that day. The former was horrified at the British casualties — especially among the officers—and the patriot was optimistic that the greatest army in the world coul...

Coyote nose, my only experience with .38 ACP was running some through that Star, which could handle .38 ACP, 9mm Largo/Bergman-Bayard and 9mm Steyr.I don't remember it being unusually loud, but then I was also fooling with one of the surplus Czech CZ-52s in 7.62 Tokarev. Now that round is LOUD.

Re: Anyone here mess with a .38 Super?
Paul, that "annoying crack" of the .357 is what drove me away from the chambering. Although a big N-frame Model 28 was my first centerfire pistol, I quickly moved on to the .44 Magnum in a Super Blackhawk. When my late father-in-law gave me his Model 19 with 2 1/2-inch barrel, I ran a few ...

Re: Anyone here mess with a .38 Super?
Jason, I have been reading about that very Tisas 1911 with the two barrels. When I looked up .38 Super ammo on Ammoseek.com this morning, there was all kinds of it and pretty reasonably priced, too -- lots of choice well under 50 cents a round.

Anyone here mess with a .38 Super?
It's a cartridge I have never even fired, much less owned a 1911 chambered for it. But it is a classic with some horsepower. Closest I have come would be a couple of the old Star Model Bs in 9mm Largo, which has considerably less starch than the Super. There was something in years past -- possibly h...

Currently about 20 percent: One Uberti 1873 in .44 WCF of course! The others: Winchester Model 75 bolt, .22, CZ .223 bolt, 1903 Springfield in honor of my Dad, and a very old Remington Model 8, .25 Remington.

Re: Interesting comparison between the .44 Magnum and .44-40
That's very useful expansion over 36 grains of Swiss FFg.
The late Mike Venturino and others have mentioned the thinner case neck on the .44 WCF vs the .44 Magnum as being more delicate. I have not yet loaded enough of the former to have any issues with the brass, but have used mostly Starline.

Jason, speaking of .303s, I had one of the little Martini artillery carbines converted to .303, and I used it to try to test the accuracy of some 225-grain .312 JSP bullets I was swaging when I had a Corbin press and a bunch of die sets. The recoil was an unpleasant surprise.

Re: New custom targe rifle.
I totally approve, Jason! I am very fond of that old .303 cartridge as well. I found it to be very accurate with good handloads out of a No. 4 Mk. 1 with the excellent aperture sights, but then my name is Bill and I am addicted to Cosmoline.
