John Ford’s “The Searchers” came astonishingly close to the novel by Alan Le May written two years earlier, in 1954. It had to help that Le May co-wrote the screenplay.

No longer in California, but I went to high school in Arcata way back when Reagan was governor -- and saw the Nixons and Johnsons fly in to the McKinleyville airport to dedicate the Lady Bird Johnson Grove and the new Redwoods National Park.

I have had the Beech combination front on a couple of rolling blocks and liked the combination of pinhead-in-globe or open blade. I'd choose just the globe option if limited to one.

Stretch, your advice is well taken. I have had the misfortune of using Chinese files on wood projects. They make Nicholsons look like Grobets. I'll probably order the 60-degree dovetail file and an Arkansas stone from good old Brownells.
