Just the facts

Here's one of the clearest discussions I've ever seen regarding handgun calibers and performance for personal defense. The takeaway? Pick the right bullet, no matter what the cartridge.

Dave, we've been enjoying the monsoon here, too, in Grant County. More than an inch of rain in the past week. Those who do not live in the desert can't appreciate what a gift it is.
As to Tisas 1911s, they do really, really good work.

It's an absolute classic in a wonderfully capable caliber. My late uncle, a timber man, horseman and mule packer, preferred it with 165-grain bullets for elk. He also greatly appreciated the ease of slipping a 99 into and out of a saddle scabbard.

Thanks guys. Nothing like shooting a black powder cartridge rifle to get one's mind off one's worries. There's a fella over at Gunboards who has this same rifle, but he mounted a Lee Shaver Vernier tang rear and Lyman globe front and is shooting out several hundred yards wth his. Very tempting!

Not bad for a 153-year-old

This rolling block rolled out of the Carl Gustafs Gevärfaktori in Eskilstuna, Sweden, in the year 1873 in full military guise and chambered for the 12,7X44 rimfire military cartridge. When it was sportered, it was converted to centerfire. The bore is excellent, but with a confirmed nut behind the bu...

Fortunately there was a Winchester warranty gunsmith in Grants Pass who had spares. He told us this wa...
