Re: .45 cal vaquero

If those Buffalo Bore are the Standard Pressure 255 gr at 1000 fps, they should be just fine. I have shot those out of my NV. On the website, it says any post-war 45 colt firearm that is in good working condition can handle that load.

Re: Winchester Silver Tips vs Power Points

My 1950 win '94 really, really likes the silvertips. Accuracy for some reason was much better than the power points in my gun. After replacing the front sight, I shot three 3-shot groups, tapping the sight between groups to get it sighted in. And all three groups were roughly the same size... 2 and ...

Re: POLITICS - A little Rebellion now and then...

Mr. Lincoln's own words would disagree with that statement and sentiment. "What I would most desire would be the separation of the white and black races." -- Abraham Lincoln, Spoken at Springfield, Illinois on July 17th, 1858 If you read the whole speech, the intended meaning is obvious.....

At the risk of rousing 41Bear out of his hybernation :) .... Before the Emancipation Proclamation in '63, both sides of the conflict understood the central role of Slavery to the war,... but what would happen to Slavery after the war if the North won? Re: POLITICS - A little Rebellion now and then...

The reason the Emancipation Proclamation only applied to the states in rebellion, was that neither the president or congress had the constitutional power to free slaves in the loyal states.

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

Hard to understand? Apparently those who agitated for war didn't understand very well. And those who believed the fear-mongering of the agitators didn't understand very well either. I posted before in this thread that it seemed to me a lose-lose situation for the South to go to war for Slavery. The ...

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

If the real issues were money and tariffs, why did the last-minute appeasements to avert war, like Corwyn and Crittendon, all have to do with Slavery? Also, I wouldn't agree that Lincoln broke his word. He knew before he took office that the executive did not have the constitutional power to abolish...

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

This snippet is about 2/3's of the way down your Stephans quote: This subject came well nigh causing a rupture of the old Union, under the lead of the gallant Palmetto State, which lies on our border, in 1833. This old thorn of the tariff, which was the cause of so much irritation in the old body po...

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

41Bear Mises is rabidly anti-Lincoln. DiLorenzo has written books demonizing Lincoln which have been torn apart by historians. 3 out of your 4 references are related to Mises. I would interested in any period documents supporting your views, because both the modern anti-government groups like Mises,...

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

41Bear, thank you for the good post and the references. I need to take the time to provide some references as well, when I have a little more time. But just some quick points... The compromise of 1850 was not a bad deal... it still maintained the old Missouri Compromise. It was not anywhere near as ...

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

In the years leading up to the war, it was not the North that was trying to impose it's way on the South, but the other way around. Sure there were abolitionists in the North that wanted to force the South to give up slavery. But the majority of Northerners were satisfied with the compromises that k...

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

Strategically located, yes. Sovereign? That is debatable. Lee was still in the US Army at the time of Fort Sumter. Lincoln offered him the high command about a week after Sumter. Maybe the war was imminent. But any rate, the situation went from a high tension political crisis to a shooting war, when...

I see; by your definition because the CSA lost the CSA were traitors yet had they won, by winning, it would prove that they were right God on their side so to speak. Which goes back to my original statement to you. Might makes right, right? I'm not debating your reasoning; you have every right to b...

Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

I'm not going to get into a lengthy discussion on the legality of secession. People have argued that over and over and not come to a definite conclusion. But in the first of your original quotes, Lincoln was not saying the right of revolution is a "legal" right. It is a natural right of me...

Why do men EVER go to war? Did the hundreds of thousands who volunteered for Viet Nam join to stop dominoes from falling in some third world Asian countries they'd never heard of before? Re: OT - Civil War Movie picks...

A well-regarded southern historian of today, like Gary Gallagher or William Davis, would not agree with the old spin that 'Lincoln was tyrant, Sherman was a monster, and the war was fought for states rights not slavery.' Even Shelby Foote made some comment in the past on how relatively well-behaved ...

Probably no other event in our history is as intentionally misunderstood as the Civil War. A note on 'victors writing the history.' This is not an totalitarian government that dictates how history will be written. Historians are free to write history the way they find it in their research. Their wor...

but Slavery was not on the way out at all. Thats correct, in fact, the escalation of the tension in the 1850's which directly led to the Civil War was the issue of expanding slavery even more than it already existed. If the south would have been content to keep slavery contained within the Missouri...

Another battlefield not too far away from Gettysburg, and well worth the visit, is Antietam in Maryland. About a 60 mile drive. The bloodiest day in American history was at Antietam, with about 4 times as many casualties as the D-day landing. Here is an interesting link to a database of the National...

According to Snopes, neither of the two professors mentioned in the OP, Tytler or Olson, ever said these things. And some of the statistics are wrong as well, such as the murder rates. http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/tyler.asp And the Lincoln quote is not really Lincoln either. I believe it wa...

New here, with a question from reading your posts...

On the 86 takedowns, can you switch between calibers just by switching front ends, with no other work needed?

Beautiful rifles, btw.
