I read that this morning and felt a sense of loss although I never met the man or even seen him. I knew about Hathcock years before I heard of Mawhanney as he kept a very low profile. Rest in Peace Sir!

I like a flat point for my hunting use and have not seen a problem of changing directions with them. Have used the Lyman 31141 and 431244 without problems but, put the most meat in the freezer using a swaged, flat point, paper patched bullet from my .45/70.

I have shot a lot of 6-7 grains of Unique in some of my .30-30s using Lyman 311241 which is similar to 311291 without the gas check. Heaps of fun! :D

A neighbor friend had a 1947 Chevy that we used to cruise around in in the early 1960's and IIRC gas was $.28/gal. but, that didn't bother us because we were working in the hay fields for $4.00 a day! :lol:

I've been casting for handguns since about 1967 and for rifles from 1973. I do believe that one could take one mold for one rifle and explore for a lifetime all the possibilities contained therein. You will need a #36-MS for rifles produced from 1898 to 1924. 36MS-24 is for rifles produced from 1924 to 1950 and 36MS-50 fits rifles from 1950 to end of production in mid '70's.

Dad passed me his M.11 back in the '60's when he was passed my Grandpa's Browning A-5 which he bought just after the war. The Model 11 was made in October 1940. The Browning, which I have now, was made by Remington but, has the mag cut-off. Those 2 guns has made a lot of meals for the family!

Most accurate load I've found for my 1948 EG is 40 grains of IMR-4064 under a 150 grain Winchester Power Point, or 150 Speer Spz. Velocity runs 2555 fps.

Bill, A good friend of mine, John Colvin, made that one for me. My original intent was for elk hunting but, I was never lucky enough to draw a tag. It has worked fine on W/T deer though. :wink:
