Nath, most of the Mosin stocks were made of arctic birch, with a small portion made of beech. The ones made by Remington and New England Westinghouse were walnut.

I've always done my own triggers. Never done a #1 but looked at diagrams on line.

I would shape the end of a rod of steel with slight bend to the tip to pick up the case and chisel or lift it from its front edge.

The gun is nothin fancy.
A Pedersoli Indian trade gun.
I call it the faux trade gun due to it not being truly an accurate copy of the trade gun.

When I first got it had a lousy lock. Unreliable and slow. It took me a while to fix it. Now it is very reliable and fast.

Re the light strikes
I've never had an issue with light strike in four rebounding hammer 1894s but have heard of it after a vain attempt to lighten the trigger via weakening the main spring.
Something I highly do not recommend.

...safety and 24" barrel in 30/30. Would it be circa 1970 or later? Would it have a forged steel receiver by then again?
Could it be pre rebounding hammer?
It is angle eject.
Found one for sale supposedly unfired. Seems a rare find in the UK.
Anyone got one or shot one?

I'm on the hunt for unwanted .308 bullets where ever I go. Sometimes come across hand ins at stores like half a box of etc etc.

When the A2400 eventually runs out I don't know what to replace it with should none be available.

It could well be fixable.
In the image of mine below you can see how the thin plate is riveted or pressed onto the spine at the back.
Has yours come lose?

Looks like something is missing to me.

By the receiver it is a post 64 one like mine.
Winchester lost the plot after 1964 and cheapened several parts..
They still shoot good though.
