Re: Can my brass be too short?

You are welcome...just FYI....I have shot short brass many times and find it not to be a big deal if the round are all loaded the same. Same charge and seating depth. In a levergun, I have found the seating depth is fairly critical because the distance from the lands is limited to do the action. So ...

I know what you mean...this past Saturday is got up to almost 60 and the sun was out from 0800 til 1300. Instead of doing chores on the property, I took the stitching horse out in the back in the sun and stitched up orders to ship on Monday. Yes you are correct, that sun sure felt good.

Re: 5744 is such a great/versatile powder

Went on line to Accurate's site and their load data shows 36gr-40gr of 5744 with a 405 LC RN bullet. 1667FPS and up.

Almost looks to me like they like the 2230 better. My manual shows those loads and I have some of that powder in stock. This is going to be fun.

Re: Can my brass be too short?

Shorter bras will reduce FPS. If you are crimping on a cannelure grove then you will have to seat the bullet deeper and that can increase you pressures. So yes a shorter case does affect the results, but is it a big deal? Just depends on how short you want to go. I would seat the bullet the same and...

My 38-55 is a Marlin 93 made in 1894 and it likes 28gr of 3031.

I'll tell you, you guys got me pumped up about playing with this 5744...off the top of my head, isn't that an Accurate power? AA5744 correct? Is that the powder we are talking about?

Looks like I might go get some, it was suggested to me to use it for 45-70 non-gas checked soft cast bullets in my Marlin 95. So after reading this thread, sounds like it might be a good idea to have some on hand. Thanks.

Mine was made in 1894 and it does not say anything on it as far as model. It has "Special Smokeless Steel" carved on the barrel and in front of the rear site is has the patent dates. The top of the reveive simpley says Marlin Firearms.
