Re: You have one firearm to survive what is it?

I would pick a Browning 1892 carbine in .357 Mag. with an aperture rear sight and a Beech front sight with aperture and blade. I would also want the gun to include a proper sling and a small kit of tools for cleaning and maintenance, with spare firing pin, extractor and springs. The buttstock would...

Got my first 22 on my 7th birthday from my Grandpa. A used Remington 514 bolt singleshot that he later said that he paid all of $5 for. Every birthday and Christmas after that I'd get some boxes of 22 shorts. Gramps seemed to think that 22LR was overkill on small game and killing hogs to butcher.

Bullet size depends on the individual 44-40. I also had a 44-40 Vaquero with the problems mentioned above. I've got Marlin 1894CCL that slugged to .4285 and I've slugged a Rossi 92 at about .431". The Marlin was the closest to SAAMI spec which is .428.

Not so much vintage, but design. I like a Marlin pistol caliber short action (1888,1889 & 1894) and the Winchester toggle links and 1892. In a shotgun, it's a recoil operated autoloader preferably a 16 gauge (Browning A-5, Remington 11 & 11-48). Pistols my favorite is the Remington 1858 cap ...

My experience with Fiocchi is a case of 16 gauge ammo that I traded into. In our autoloading 16 gauge shotguns, it feeds fine, shoots well, but won't eject. Apparently Fiocchi's 2 3/4" ruler is about 1/8" longer than anyone else's which is just long enough to hang up the hull in the action...
