45-70 Sharps for deer
As other post have stated, in Ohio you can now use a slew rounds in rifles (straight case) for deer. My son is going to use my Winchester .357 and I am going to use my Shiloh Sharps carbine in 45-70. So I thought what the hay. My wife and I am at a casino in In. I'm typing and she is losing money, b...

Re: 357 carbine and deer: opinions on the 158 gr Hornady xtp
My son took a nice doe with a GP100 .357 158 grain bullet. Sack a taters at ~50 yards. This year in Ohio, he can use my Winchester in
.357. I told him to keep it under ~100 yds and he will be eating backstraps the next day.
Go for it!

Open carry has always been legal in Ohio, since it be came a state. That said, in the hills folks wound not bat an eyeball. In big cities the police may arrest you for causing panic. You will go to court and win. But time and money will make a sour victory.

Thank you for all the responses. I am thinking on the 300 to 350 for Ohio deer. (2 years ago I popped a doe that dressed out at 160lbs). I do not want to step on the load, 1200 to 1300 fps shout be fine. Now I have a new chore in finding the best load. Guess this is why I love reloading. Thanks all ...

A bit ago I posted that folks in Ohio can use pistol caliber rifles for deer hunting.
I read the new regs. and they are the same as with a shotgun.
Only 3 rounds and you must have a plug in the tube. Thoughts on
how the could be accomplished with the most ease?
Thank you,
Joe

444 is very usefull, though if I had to have 1 rifle to survive on I would take a rifle in 357. Can shoot small game with the 38 spl and for larger game .357. Both rounds will work for SD. I still love my Sharps 45-70.

First off, thank you guys for load data on my 30-30. Dumb question, I've had my right shoulder cut on twice due to work injuries.
My 30-30 has a metal butt stock. Will a model 336 limbsaver or others fit. I can sand it down a bit, but the less is better.
Thought on it?
